"What is the problem? Why would the wedding be called off at the last minute?" George asked in a sad tone. His mind had been calculating how much he would lose if the marriage didn't take place.
"The marriage will take place without him. He had an emergency meeting in Dublin because of his failed career. We will place a picture of him beside the bride, then the priest will perform the ceremony. Do you all agree with that?" Thompson explained.
"If that is the case, then everything is settled. My dearest Lily can get married to him through the picture, there is nothing bad in it." Sofia agreed immediately, tears lined under Linda's eyebrows.
Even if she has to get married so fast, then it should be a great one, but now nothing is good about everything going on here.
"My soon-to-be husband won't be seated beside me?" Linda asked for confirmation.
"We are sorry for it..."
"You have no reason to be sorry, we all know the reason behind it, and we are okay with it." Sofia cut off Miranda before she could complete the sentence. The two women smiled at each other.
"Mum is right, you can carry on with the marriage." Lily chimed in, frowned and rolled her eyes at Linda, who was looking at them in disbelief.
"Okay, priest, carry on with the union," Thompson permitted. Linda was numbed but managed to perform the ceremony.
The wedding has ended. Thompson and Miranda rode in a car while Linda was in the other one. Her thoughts were filled with lots of questions.
"I hope everything will be fine." She muttered, took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
The Thompsons got out of the car, Miranda went to check on Linda and saw her sleeping.
"She is asleep." She reported to her husband, who was satisfied with her current condition.
"Let her be while I teach that boy a lesson." He replied and rushed in. She ran behind him with the fear that he would do crazy things in anger.
"Miguel, Miguel." He yelled his name while climbing the stairs in a hurry.
"Please be careful."
Thompson pushed the door open, there was no sign of him. He rushed to the bathroom and searched every corner of the room, but he couldn't find him.
"Is that not a letter?" Miranda asked, breathing heavily. Thompson turned, walked towards it, took it and opened it.
"Hi Mum, I'm sorry for what happened today. I had no other choice than to do that, so I have reconsidered my decision. You can send her to my mansion where I am." He read out, his anger reduced a little. He took out his phone and dialed a line.
"Tell the driver to drive her to Miguel's mansion right now." He instructed and hung up the call instantly, then he walked out of the room.
"They are always on each other's necks," Miranda said and shook her head before leaving.
Linda opened the front door as instructed. Everywhere was filled with darkness. Suddenly, she felt a grip on her right arm. Before she could think or react, the lights were turned on.
Miguel threw off her hand and pushed her on the sofa. She started thinking of what to do next, fear was boldly registered on her face.
She tried to stand up despite being tired. He placed his right foot on the sofa and pinned her down with his two hands. Her heart started beating faster than normal.
"Please...let..me...go." She managed to say, he smacked her hard on the face.
"Tell me one reason I should leave you." He screamed in her face. She shifted her face backwards a little bit with her eyes shot.
"Answer me." He yelled, more of his saliva plastered on her face, she only closed her eyes a little bit.
Because... I'm your wife." She responded, he smirked and smacked her cheek again, tears started rolling off her cheek out of pain.
"You are not my wife, get that straight into your d*mn brain." His voice came as a roar, he released her, took some steps backwards, turned and roughed his hair.
Linda's eyes stared at him from the back. All she saw was a very muscular and handsome guy. She took her lips in admiration.
"Hello." Miguel snapped his finger across her face, she jolted off her thought and lowered her head out of embarrassment.
Linda...even if you have a crush on someone, then it shouldn't be this devil. She rolled her eyes.
"I can see you've fallen in love with me already, it's not a new thing anyway." He boasted with a smile at the corner of his mouth, his voice was calm and lovely.
She mentally slapped herself for making him think that way and for drooling on him again.
Nobody said a word to each other. He sat down beside her. "Why did you accept this marriage?" He asked in a serious tone.
"I can't tell you that." She replied shabbily.
"Why? Is it because you and your family were too greedy to let go of that amount my parents offered? Are you that poor that you depend on my family? Are you one of my admirers who want to get married to me at all costs? Are you useless to the extent you want me in your bed?." He bombarded her with questions which sounded like insults in her ears.
Linda couldn't believe her ears, he was absolutely right about her family, but the insults hurled at her were too many. She wanted to burst out, the warnings Sofia gave to her rang continuously in her ears.
She sighed and looked at him helplessly.
