Chapter 10

577 Words
POV- Crystal, age 16 As soon as we got out of Dr. Green's cabin, the heaviness and seriousness of the situation finally hit me, and I burst into tears. "Misty...." I say, sobbing into her shoulder, "I'm.. going to...be a mom..." I ended barely and started wailing like a baby myself. Damn those hormones! "Christy, what happened?" a very concerned-looking Jen appears out of nowhere, and Misty replies, "She's three months and a half pregnant, with twins." Then she shows her one of the many ultrasound pictures I had asked Dr. Green to print out in my shocked haze, and she had so gladly obliged. Jen takes it in her hand, studies it thoroughly, and starts to sniff.  Is she going to join me or what?  As I predicted, Jen starts sobbing, too. "You're gonna be a momma, kid! You're a kid yourself!" she says with happiness, tears making her voice hitch. Misty hands her the box of Kleenex. She takes two of them and offers the box to me. I finally make sense of the words she said. I stop sniffing. The reality of the situation hits me like a ton of bricks. "You are right, Jen. I'm a kid myself. How will I take care of two babies?" I say with the panic evident in my voice. "I can't do this." I say nervously, shaking my head rapidly. "Of course you can! We are with you, you will never be alone in this!" Misty reassures me, and I see that truth is evident in her words, so I somewhat calm down. And ask her the million-dollar question. "B-but how will I become a lawyer if I have to mother two kids, Misty!" I say hysterically. I fought tooth and nail to be able to keep my grades good even with my addiction. Whenever I was even in a half-sober state, I promised myself to study hard and become a lawyer, and most of all, hide my problem from all of them. That's why it took me passed out on a sidewalk for them to discover it. I never wanted to disappoint all of them like that, again.  "Any college will be lucky to have you, and you would make an amazing lawyer, Christy!" says Misty with hope and belief in her ocean eyes. "Hey, I'll babysit for you every moment I can spare. You will never have to do this alone. Me, Jen, Marty, my family, we will always be constants in the children's life. We will stick to you like glue, okay, C?" She says this with so much confidence and veracity that I finally start to believe her. "Even I will babysit them as I babysit my own kids." says Jen lovingly. "Babysitting your own kids is called 'parenting', Jenny." Misty says, rolling her eyes with humor stocked in them.  "Well, anyway, whatever happens, happens, kid. We are with you every step of the way. You just carry them to term, push them out like a boss, get your GED, go to college and law school, and become the most kick-a*s lawyer in all of New York City." Jen said to me like she always had.  With love, and like a sister. I never had a sister of my own, but I never longed for one. It never felt like that, because these two were always there for me, whom I can trust with my whole being, no matter what, no strings attached.
