Bill Silverton paced back and forth in front of Glacier Bank on the main drag in downtown Whitefish. Richard Knight’s mammoth check was burning a hole in his jacket pocket. He knew if he cashed it, he’d be beholden to the damned Texas billionaire. And, if he didn’t, he’d stay a little fish in a little pond for the rest of his life.
