Chapter 1 : Emerald Eyes
Lydia's POV
I wake up drenched in sweat . My hair clings to my face, and my heart is racing .
It's that dream again. The same dream I have had at least two times a week for the last year.
It begins with me opening the doors to what I believe is an old warehouse. It's in the middle of nowhere, but there's a glow of a light coming through the cracks around the door. I carefully open the door just enough to see the horrific scene occurring inside.
There's a large man along with two others. They have a man strapped to a table . He's bleeding everywhere.Screaming , begging for their mercy . As I witness the scene in front of me, a small gasp lets out . Suddenly, the larger man turns to my direction. His eyes instantly settle on me . I see a small smirk in the corner of his lip before he puts the dagger he's holding down and runs in my direction.
I run as fast as I possibly can for the forest line. I hear the ripping of clothes and growls coming from my pursuers . I know they have shifted.
Inside the forest , I search for a place to hide. The deeper I go, I know it's useless. The forest canopy is too thick. Blocking out any hope of light . I hear them closing in around me . I haven't shifted yet, and without my wolf, I stand no chance against 3 fully grown wolves. Suddenly, I hear a branch snap next to me. Before I even turn my head in the direction of the sound, I'm being rolled across the ground. Growls encompass me from all sides . I open my eyes to see a massive black wolf with emerald eyes glaring above me. His teeth barred, ready to kill.
I lay in bed rubbing my eyes, willing the dream from my mind .
As I turn over to look at my alarm clock, it shows 4:10A.M ugh. Might as well start my day, I think to myself. I pull the blanket from myself and make my way to the shower.
Turning the nozzles, I opt for a cold shower.
As I wash my hair, I kept thinking about the dream I had. Why do I continue to have this dream over and over? Whose eyes, full of darkness and danger, do these belong too?
Knowing I would drive myself insane with my own thoughts, I finish my shower and step out to dry off.
Looking in the mirror, it's easy to see I haven't slept. The purple bags under my eyes hold a stark contrast to my tanned skin. My steel grey eyes are lacking their normal shine.
I finish drying off and wrap my long dark hair in a towel. I finish with some moisturizer on my face and step out into my room . As I walk to my closet, I get a mindlink from Alpha Wayne . " Warriors are to report to Marcus at the South end training field at 6 A.M. sharp. Anyone running late will be held accountable. Junior Warriors are to report to Ethan, at the Eastern field, by 6 A.M. sharp."
Looking at the clock, it's only five minutes after five . I walk inside my closet and opt for my Nike sports bra and matching legging set. I braid my hair in dutch braids and slipped on my shoes .
As I'm getting ready to head out, I get a mindlink from Clayton. " Goodmorning beautiful , would you like to grab some breakfast with me before training ?" Rolling my eyes at his "beautiful" comment I anwser back.
"If by breakfast you mean my daily coffee, then yes!"
" I'm headed to the dining hall now,"he says.
" Okay, I'm on my way," I say .
Clayton is the next Alpha in line. We've grown up together . My brother Eli will be Clayton's Beta. I myself am a warrior. We've trained together for years. My father, Beta Heath, believed in all of his children being able to protect themselves. Unfortunately, that lifestyle didn't stick when it came to my sister Tara. She opted for the sterotypical fashion, friends & boys. My other brothers are twins Rane and Ethan. Both are amazing warriors within our pack . Rane found his mate this year on their 21st birthday . He moved into a house not far from our home with her . Ethan hasn't found his mate, but he keeps himself busy with training our junior warriors.
Grabbing my gym bag, I head downstairs . As I get to the front door, I'm greeted by my mother & father. Well, good morning to you too, Lydia, my mother states. Turning to give her my cheekiest smile, I say good morning to both my mom and dad.
My dad looks at his watch . Training isn't for another half hour . Where are you off to, he asks? Clayton wants to grab breakfast. I respond. I see my mother cast a side glance at my father. Arching my eyebrow, I ask, "What's that about mom ?" Hmmm, she responds," Oh nothing. Don't "Oh nothing , me mom," I state. What gives?
At this point, my father chimes in . Lydia, your mom just doesn't think you should be spending time with Clayton so often. He's going to be Alpha soon, and he will find his fated mate. She doesn't want to see you getting caught in a mess. Smiling to myself, I say that's bold to assume that I would entangle myself in a mess with Clayton.
My mother responds, stating it's not you I worry about . It's Clayton.Hes very fond of you. I see it in his eyes. If you're not his fated , I think he will be truly disappointed. I don't want to see you on bad terms with him if fate has different plans.
I understand, Mama. Clayton and I are just friends, though. Giving her a hug , I wave goodbye to my dad and turn for the door.
Walking the path to the packhouse, I take a moment to just breathe in the morning air. I love mornings here . The mountains that surround the Blue Mountain Pack are stunning. It's no wonder how our packs name came to be . As soon as the sun begins to rise, the shadows on the mountains turn into a beautiful blue. This place is truly home.
As I approach the packhouse, I marvel at its beauty. This packhouse was built as a gift by Luna Addisons, sister and husband. Luna Addisons sister married the second son of the royal family. While I've never met them, I hear great things about them. When Luna Addison was expecting her twins, Julia and Stella, her sister Alessia gifted the packhouse to her in preparation of needing more room.
More room is an understatement. This place is four stories high . It houses the Alpha suite on the 4th floor. The Beta suite on the 3rd floor. The 2nd floor houses the Delta and Gamma families . Outside of the suites are a total of 30 guest rooms. These are used to house members from other packs when they visit. The first floor is the mad house as I refer to it. This is where the dining hall , rec room , kitchen, and theatre all reside.
Walking inside , I head to the dining hall. I search the room for Clayton and find him talking to my brother Eli at the coffee bar.
Good morning boys. I hope you all slept well, I state . Clayton, looking at me, frowns. Obviously better than you slept . What gives Lydia he asks. Nothing, I just didn't sleep well, I respond. " Hence the need for coffee , duh." I add playfully.
Well I hope you're ready for training beautiful because it's our day to spare.
Rolling my eye's, I state you won't be calling me beautiful when I'm making you scream that you tap out .
O, beautiful, you got it all wrong, he says. It'll be me making you scream, but it doesn't gotta be from pain as he winks.
"Clayton shut the f**k up, that's my sister man." Eli shouts.
Clayton starts laughing and hands me a coffee . I roll my eyes and mumble you wish under my breath as I take my coffee and leave.
