The Alpha's Offer

“How you holding up kiddo?” Claire passed me a glass of water and a bowl of pretzels. She didn't have much comfort food here, but the snacks were at least to my taste. “I’ll be fine. I just can’t believe that selfish prick isn’t going to reject me.” I slapped the glass on the counter still furious over what I’m choosing to call The Isaac inconvenience. “Kiddo, you’re not a wolf-” “A fact that I am fully aware of with every second here.” “Well, look, you don’t experience the effect of our mating bond. So it’s not something you can ever understand.” I looked at her wondering when this will start to sound like advice. “You know, you’re suppose to offer me a way out of this right? You’re my family. Be on my side.” “He’s my alpha,” Claire slapped my arm jokingly, “and a mighty fine one at that. I just think you need to give him a chance. Just talk to him.” “Pardon me.” We both turned our heads to see Alex shaking a small box over his head, “I hate to interrupt, but I have a gift for our little Luna.” Tossing him a side eye I swivel myself back around facing away from the gift. Claire reached over me, flicking her fingers for Alex to bring the gift to her. Alex obeyed. There was an interesting dynamic with this pack. They seemed to treat Claire with so much respect she was a sudo-apha. I knew my father’s lineage went back far in this pack, but it was the only one around, so I always figured there were a lot of families that could trace their ancestry back. I waited for Alex to leave and crossed my arms at Claire who held the gift in my face. “Come on, he’s giving you a gift. It’d be rude not to accept.” Something about her just screamed that I needed to listen to her and I reluctantly snatched the box. It was a cute wrapping I had to admit. Silver bow tied the brown together nicely. I lifted the top off and was surprised to see a note and a brand new phone. “I already have one Claire, I think he’s just messing around.” Claire shrugged and swivelled herself around to go behind the bar taking my glass and bowl with her. “I’m going to get ready for the dinner shift. If you want you can stay, but expect a lot of werewolves. It’s a Saturday night, not going to be quiet.” I nodded to her dismissively, “I’ll think it over.” Looking over the note I flipped it open. The penmanship was exquisite, something I never thought Isaac would have been able to pull off. He must have had a secretary write it for him. I know I had to write a few personal notes myself. Amalia (Great, he kept it professional in the beginning at least.) I know you must be wondering why I gave you a phone. Well, truth be told I didn’t know your number, but now I do, and as luck would have it you now know mine as well. I know this morning was difficult for you, I do not want to overstep my bounds, so I’ll keep this short. If you would honor me with a simple date. One night, just call me. I promise you, I will make sure you don’t regret it. Your faithful servant, Isaac I had to give it to him, he was persistent. Though, if I could convince him during this date that I wasn’t a good fit for the pack, maybe then he’d reject me. Quickly I picked up the phone, it wasn’t as nice of a model as mine, but it was still a top of the line piece. Hopefully he wasn’t too far smitten. The phone wasn’t locked but annoyingly the wall paper was of a wolf with a full moon in the background. Ignoring the irony I flipped to the contacts. Four people were already on my list. Isaac, Alex, Nate and Claire. He certainly thought of everything. I waved at Claire before she disappeared into the kitchen, “I’m going to make a call, just going to step out for a moment.” Noticing that I had Isaac’s phone in my hand she smiled and winked kicking the door open with her foot throwing me two thumbs up. Outside I tapped away at Isaac’s name until the dialing started. He answered a little too quick for my liking I barely had time to think about what I was going to say before his warm voice sounded through the phone. “Hello Luna.” “Don’t call me that.” I had hoped my monotone annoyance would get him to not joke around. “As you wish, Amalia.” “Thank you.” “To what do I owe the pleasure of your call?” “I thought I would take you up on your offer.” “My offer? Mrs Sirius, are you asking me out on a date?” The pleasure in his voice was almost too excited. “You offered, first.” My annoyance returned and added ten fold when I discovered he last named me but it at least got him to stop chuckling. “Taking away all my fun, I see this is what I have to look forward to then?” “Hopefully not for much longer.” “I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.” now it was his turn to be annoyed, but I didn't care how much I offended him, he was a problem, and it was getting out of hand. “Just tell me what place and where.” “I figured you would pick the place. I don’t care where it is as long as it’s with you.” “Fine, Claire’s bar, tonight, Ten O’clock.” At least I’d get a few moment’s to plan my escape as soon as this was over. “Of course, is there to be a dress code then?” “It’s a bar,” questioning his motive I figured I could just shrug him off, “Wear whatever you want.” “That’s a dangerous game you’re playing Amalia.” I knew where this was going, but surely he wouldn’t show up wearing nothing, before I could rephrase he responded again. “You know I’m already comfortable around the pack, I don’t think you’d be able to handle me completely exposed.” I could hear his glee through my receiver. “Wear something, obviously. Wear pants, and a shirt! For Inari’s sake don’t even think about coming naked!” Throwing my hands up I didn’t care if I was making a scene. This wolf was getting on my nerves, and while a deep part of me would have loved to see his muscles fully exposed, I didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole. Chuckling again he cleared his throat fighting back the laughter, “Sorry, I’m getting a terrible look from a few of the pack members. I’ll have to love you but leave you. I’ll see you tonight.” Hanging up the phone he left me mouth gaping and fuming. Kicking the side of the building I pushed the door as it opened allowing me to stomp in. Claire was busy setting out shot glasses in a line while making sure everything was all set for later tonight. “Grab a bucket and help me get the ice.” Throwing a bucket on the counter she pushed it over to me. “So I guess I’m going to have a date tonight.” I said it quietly, but loud enough for her to hear. If she could offer me a bit of advice before this whole ordeal took place I would be sure to succeed. Claire stopped arranging the glasses and jumped over the counter, “With Isaac I hope? Where? What are you wearing? When? Oh who am I kidding of course you know what you’re wearing. You’ll look stunning in anything, but just in case we need to go shopping, this is going to be a special night.” “Hold on there.” I held up my hands but she took it as an offer to swing me around gliding me out the door and to her car. She made sure to lock the door pushing on it several times before hopping over her hood to the driver’s seat. “Get your ass in the car. The mall’s only a few minutes away.” I didn’t want to disappoint her, but I had planned on using this time to get personal affairs in order. If I could leave before midnight making my way back to my normal life I’d be content. Claire clearly was getting ahead of herself though and I could see wedding bells in her eyes.
