51 Adam pulled gently away from JJ. He felt like a shell, an empty meat and bone husk, yet when Harlan rose abruptly from his spot by the fireplace, touching the high back of his chair to steady himself, Adam was compelled to follow. “What is it?” he asked. Harlan went straight to his desk, with its pile of maps and his glasses. “Iris, can you help me with this?” She didn’t move.
