44 He’d just gotten into position, nestling down in the bed of pine needles, when Adam stepped out onto the front porch. Adam wore proper pants now, but he still had slippers on his feet and walked like a cripple. It almost didn’t seem fair. He watched as Adam picked his way to the parked cars and looked up at the sky. He wondered if Adam knew his constellations. Did the Scout leaders teach kids that? Not that it mattered now. It was too early to see anything but the brightest planet, and cloud shapes were building on the horizon. Still, there might be decent visibility later. Who could say? Maybe he should take Adam now.
