45 Adam wanted to stand in the dark, disconnected from everything and everyone, until he couldn’t stand anymore. That wouldn’t take long, as unsteady as his legs felt. Perhaps he should lie down instead, although he may never get up again. He slowly lowered himself to one knee. The driveway was cold, and tiny rocks pressed through his jeans. Adam painfully brought his upright knee to join the other one on the ground, and, legs tight, sat on his heels. Adam wanted so desperately to not think, to not be.
