CHAPTER 6 The game of chessThey went to the nearest village and made inquiries about Egil Thorenson’s sons. No one there knew where they might be found, but one man told them of someone who had known the family. They slept in the village that night and next morning set off for the hill farm mentioned by the man. They found a young man working in the fields and an old man sitting in a chair at the window staring over the valley. It was not till they had been talking to him for some time that Neil realized he was blind. He remembered Thorenson. His daughter brought food and drink and made them very welcome.
