Elsie's Pov
I stood outside the gate, still contemplating my life's decision. Not that I really had any control over it.
The gate finally opened up, revealing Ryan standing inside, rubbing his eyes with his fist.
"It took you long enough." I said angrily to him.
"Why are you here so early?" He asked grudgingly.
"Because we have a session this morning. It's not like I wanted to be here anyways. Plus, unlike you, some people actually do keep to time. So move out of my way." I said and shoved him to the side before making my way in.
He yawned and walked away from the gate, leaving it ajar.
My brows creased, "Aren’t you going to close back the gates?" I asked.
"Nahh" he replied with a wave of hand, "The gatekeeper will attend to it."
I wasn't surprised that he didn't care if his house got invaded or not, this was his usual behaviour so I what I truly felt was disgust.
He walked past me, yawning and stretching his hands above his head.
He mumbled something inaudible under his breath but I chose to ignore it because it was too early for him to get on my nerves.
When we got to the study, I kept my bag gently on the table, unzipped it and took out the learning materials.
"What are we learning today?" He asked but I ignored him while I continued setting up.
"Elsie!" He called out.
"Shut up!" I shot at him, dumping a large textbook in his lap.
"Ouch, that hurt, Elsie." He whimpered.
"We're working on history today." I said to him, taking out more textbooks and ignoring his pain.
"History, ugh..."
"Can't we do something else, today?"
I placed my hands on my waist and turned to him, "You really think I've got all the time in the world do you?" I asked sarcastically.
"If we decide to do something else, when are we going to have history?"
"You think I don’t know that you have plans on booking extra sessions?" I shot at him.
"No, I was only suggesting that we do something else. I don't like history that much."
"My job is to make sure that you ace every of your courses which includes history whether you like the course or not."
His shoulders visibly slopped, I didn't care, I didn't care about nothing else other than getting him to pass every of his course, because now, his father was involved and who in their right senses would want to get on Mr Blake's bad side? Not even the principal of the school would.
"Turn the book open to page 245, that's where we're going to be dealing with today." I instructed him.
He yawned before sluggishly turning to the page.
"And can you quit yawning already." I said, irritation dripping from my tone. It was obvious he had had a good night rest while I was barely able to make it through the night.
"Sorry about that."
I muttered a curse under my breath. I was in no mental frame to have the tutor today but I had to push through.
Ryan paid rapt attention to all I had to say as the class went on. When he asked questions, I was convinced he was learning and catching on quickly which was more fortunate for me than him.
I made him memorise some places in the textbook. When I was sure he had grabbed it, I made him say the parts he had memorised out loud.
The class was drawing to a close and I couldn't have been more happier. I began to quickly pack up my things.
"Uhm, can I ask you something?" He said.
I looked down at my watch before I replied, "My time with you is up already, so if you have any questions pleases save it for the next class."
"Then save it." I snapped.
On second thoughts..."You know what, ask your damn question."
"Uhm..." he started, searching the space in front of me with his gaze.
"I saw the way your brother treated you yesterday, is everything okay with the both of you?" He asked.
"And why should you care?" I placed my hands back on my waist again.
"I know it's not in my place to care about what goes on in your family. But i was genuinely concerned when I saw how he spoke to you yesterday."
Yeah right! Genuinely concerned my damn foot!
Ryan would be the last person on this planet who would ever care about anyone else asides himself. I knew he was doing this to strike a co conversation with him, but i won't let him.
I had let down my guard once, doing it again will only reflect weakness and I wasn't as weak as Ryan thought I was.
"Save your concerns for something else. And don't try to ask personal questions about my family again."
"Hey, I was just being a good friend..." he shot up his palms in the air as if in surrender.
He didn't just say what I thought he said...no way he did not.
"Did I just hear you say a good friend?" I arched a brow at him.
"Uh, yeah?"
"Don't you ever..." i said through clenched teeth, pointing a finger at him, frustration gnawing at my core.
"We're not friends, and we never will be! I'm your tutor and your classmate. That's where the relationship ends, don't try to insert yourself into my life again because I promise you, you'll regret the day you met me."
My breath was coming out in ragged gasps because I had been holding in my breath for too long. I wiped the perspiration off my head with the back of my palm, yanked my bag and stormed off.
"Elsie!"
The nerve he has to call after me, "f*****g i***t!"
"Elsie, I'm sorry okay. I didn’t know you'll get upset."
"Arrgh." I growled, placing my hands over my ears so I wouldn't hear his irritating voice anymore.
