They were all grinning at the corner of their mouths as Penelope shook her head and folded her arms across her chest.
If I am being really honest, I did not think I would see you today at all. I let you go today, and you were lucky. I would have had to deal with you a lot more if I hadn't."
I gulped and tried to think before I spoke in order to avoid upsetting them to the point where something dramatic would occur. Even though this was a disaster, a scene would be far worse.
"I apologise for my escape. I apologise and promise not to do that again. They all three burst out laughing so hard they started sobbing, and they simultaneously clapped their hands while maintaining that sly smile that was simultaneously horrifying and unpleasant.
Penelope frowned, twisted her head to the left, and formed a dejected expression.
"Are you aware of the thing that I detest about you? That you are apologising to me bothers me. I did not know what to say, so I hastily lowered my head.
"I am sorry!" I informed her right away. If it meant that she would leave me alone, I would say anything to her.
She chuckled and moved slowly in my direction until we were practically standing next to each other. "You you feeling down?"
I was about to say something when she struck me in the face. What I got was a smack that was so strong I had not felt it in a long time. The wine glasses shattered and the trays I was holding toppled to the floor.
My eyes grew wide as I realised I was going to die!
My body would ache for the rest of my life from the torment I was going to endure from the Luna. I immediately dropped to my knees and began gathering up the broken glass that was all over the floor when I noticed a glint of rage in her eyes.
Even though tears were pooling behind my eyes, I said, "I am so sorry, please keep the party going," aloud for everyone to hear. I started to get up, but Penelope and her minions deliberately pushed me down, causing me to fall back to the ground with the glass fragments in my hands cutting into my palms from reducing the force of my fall.
"Ugh."
I moaned and winced at the same time.
Counting the amount of people staring at me, I looked up. They all looked at me with gloomy eyes and offered me no consolation. They did not like me since it seemed more like I had ruined their celebration.
"I apologise!" Specifically, I cried out and whimpered when Luna waved a "You are dead" sign at me.
I felt helpless as I glanced at the pieces of glass that had become stuck in my hand, and even though I was in pain right now, I felt like I had to apologise over and over.
I heard someone is speaking out of nowhere. Everybody stopped talking to turn to face the source of the voice.
When I recognised who it was, my eyes grew wide.
"I saw everything that happened. Why do you offer an apology? With anger blazing in his ice-blue eyes, Steffan roared.
David and Joel were following him closely. I erred by giving the Moon goddess my thanks too soon. The trio I was afraid of remained at the celebration. I was destined to fail.
The room echoed with Steffan's remarks as he took on the challenge. "I saw everything that happened. Why are you expressing regret?
His fiery, icy-blue gaze sliced through the tense atmosphere in the room.
David and Joel gazed at one another, a mix of curiosity and concern on their features. Penelope, the one who initiated the whole situation, appeared to be taking pleasure in the attention she was receiving as she folded her arms and smiled smugly.
She pointed to me and said, "This piece of trash was in my way and I only took care of her." And flipped her hair like she would just done the country a great big favour.
Even though I detested Penelope, I had to stop her from getting into trouble since that would just lead to more problems for me—at home and at school.
"I stumbled and fell; it is not her fault. I apologise sincerely for bothering you. I bent my head and spoke quickly, hoping that my penalty would be something I could handle.
Steffan took a step forward, his jaw tensing up. He sneered at me and said, "What part of 'I saw everything' do you not understand?" "I fail to see why you must stand up for someone who is obviously in the wrong."
"How is it going for you?" Hailey made a joke.
"When someone receives unfair treatment, I take notice of it," Steffan said her, his irises resembling the waves of a disturbed ocean. His eyes were already flaming with wrath. Then he turned to face me and said, "Are you apologising for something you did not do? How come you would do that?
I bent my head and glanced at my feet, knowing that I had an answer for what he asked, but I would not dare say it. All I wanted was for the earth to split open and engulf me alone. I knew I was in trouble since the Luna would not put up with me.
Penelope snorted and ignored what Steffan had said. Oh, please, Steffan. You always say you are the hero. This loser stole my happiness, and I am not going to stand for it."
Steffan's gaze shifted to the shattered glass lying on the floor.
"Penelope, it seems like you are the one causing trouble."
Meanwhile, the onlookers dispersed, with some standing back and whispering to them other and others observing the altercation. The atmosphere had a subtle tension. The surprise was unmatched. The group was well-known for their excessive power abuses and excesses. This represented the first time any of them had taken a stand against injustice. the initial one.
"It is quite terrible that someone with your social standing and family would act in such a lowly manner towards a fellow member of this kingdom." He continued to chastise her.
She was about to say something inane and sarcastic when a tall figure entered the room and attracted everyone's attention. Professor Anderson was the one. Being a fair and strict teacher, he was well-liked by all of the students, including the most powerful families. There were rumours that he had many influential contacts in every industry you could imagine, and they would always jump at the chance to help when he needed it. As a result, he was well-liked and feared by many.
Steffan seized the opportunity. "Professor, there has been an incident. "This girl... what is your name?" he questioned, turning to face me. "April." Quietly, I muttered. "We will not put up with Penelope insulting April here in an unfair manner."
Professor Anderson assessed the scene, noting the shattered glasses and the strained atmosphere within the room. Would you please clarify, young lady?
Sneering, Penelope said, "It is not a big deal. April stumbled after getting in my way.
"That is untrue." Steffan shoved her hard. "It is obvious that you shoved her, and April is lying to cover up your miserable ass."
Disappointment replaced the harsh look on the professor's face. It is never appropriate to respond violently. Penelope, you are going to pay for what you did. Furthermore, April, no matter who is involved, you do not have to apologise if you have not done anything wrong.
"Yes, master." I bent my head and said. It was not improving. I mean, really, why would I cause a scene for Steffan?
Someone in the audience murmured something, and Penelope's face flushed pink with wrath. As the professor continued, Steffan gave me a consoling look, offering me his unspoken support. I was thinking to myself, This is weird. This was the same Steffan who, a few years prior, had plagued my very existence. It was as though he was forgetting who I was. He had inquired about my name as well. Steffan was obviously familiar with my name. Why he asked again was only known to the deity.
After selecting my tray, I vanished. Nothing would ever bring me back to that room this evening. I was about to retire to bed having just narrowly avoided death. Tomorrow, the Head Worker would have me crucified, but I would make it. I did all the time.
