Chapter 5.

Steffan's perspective "What was that behind you?" As soon as we exited the hallway, David asked. Tonight, Joel was undoubtedly on his side. Indeed. That was really strange. Hey, what is wrong with you? Will you please close it? I gave him a hiss. "Remember, nobody is meant to know that we are buddies. Indeed, indeed. I am aware. stated Joel. I was perplexed. "You are my brother, so why in the world did you just call me 'bro' in public?" He gave me a smile. "Slow down. I am not serious. I am merely toying with you. and both he and David started laughing. I groaned in frustration and sank my teeth. "You people are the worst of the worst. We must adhere to the schedule. I said that with all the sincerity I could manage. I wanted to keep my playful side buried, but these guys had a way of bringing it out. In any case, I did not want all of our preparations and labour to be for nothing, even only for a few minutes of silliness. You still have not explained why you withdrew there. David urged. "I am not sure. I could not help but feel drawn to her. I informed him. My actions perplexed me even more. Even though I detested injustice, I had never defended the rights of the wronged. I even made fun of a few weak people at times. Although I detested myself, I had no choice but to do it. Everything happened as part of the plan. "A tug?" Indeed, it felt almost like I was under control. "Maybe the mate bond is involved?" Joel took a bite. "Oh my god no." I was vehemently in disagreement. Right now, the last thing I needed was the Moon goddess to bring someone into my life who may unduly interfere with my ambitions for this kingdom. I really thought that I would be among the select few individuals without partners because my partner had either passed away when I was a youngster or was extremely far away. I just made one request to the Moon Goddess. It was not a mate I wanted. "You do realise that it felt like you were under control?" Joel enquired. Yes. As if she were pulling me to assist her. I answered. "It sounds like a mate relationship to me." David grinned. "Perhaps you have a partner after all." Heavens prohibit it. With everything we have planned, it is the last thing I need. If she was your partner, how would you respond? Shut her down? Joel enquired. Most likely. I do not require a partner. I reiterated. "You do realise that will only lead to further problems for her and the ongoing bullying she faces, just like it is today?" Joel asked again. "Awful." I responded with a moan. "Joel, I detest your foolish behaviour, but I think I detest it even more when you speak with intelligence and make sense." "That is only one of the several reasons you adore me so deeply." The moron then gave me a kiss. "Yuck." David trembled. I admitted to David that I knew. "Let us leave before someone notices us." We had already parked our autos in front of the building. While all that noise was going on in the hallway, the workmen must have brought them around. We got in and got in the car. That was one of the many benefits I took great pleasure in having as an Alpha from a strong family. We may dispatch our drivers and take up the wheel ourselves. Those drivers frequently served as spies for powerful individuals. Right now, when everyone wanted to know what we were up to, we could not afford to have that. Ideally, the tension we created for them would cease as soon as possible before the smallest bit of knowledge leaked. My thoughts could not resist while I was driving away. I could not get the girl I had seen during the welcome ceremony out of my head. April was her name, she explained. She felt familiar in some way, but I could not quite put her in my mind. Even if I had known someone with such name, I was not positive. "It is a lovely name," remarked my wolf. "Oh, please stop talking." I uttered the words. "You are aware of my accuracy." He made fun of me. When he wanted to be, my wolf could be very annoying. We should be the same person, thus it seems strange that he spends all of his time attempting to annoy me. It consistently functionsed. Still, he was correct. April was such a nice name, and I thought there was a pretty girl below all those tired eyes and a melancholy face. "You are incorrect," I corrected him. "You just acknowledged it to yourself. You do not remember who I am. My wolf let out a sigh. He was shaking his head at me, I could feel it. If my wolf was not already my mind at this time, then he was linked to it. "Anyhow." I sighed and headed back home. I mean, she could not be my partner? As Joel stated, rejecting her would be devastating for her—that is, if she were ever my partner. The Moon goddess had a unique ability to make things more complicated than they already were, and she would act in her own way without taking my sentiments into account. Mentally, I sighed. "But, upon further reflection, there was no chance that girl would be my partner, correct?" My wolf asked me. "I am not sure," he replied. He was not quite ready, I suppose, to feel the mating link. By the time they were eighteen, the majority of people experienced heir mate link; however, at nearly twenty-one, I had not experienced it. I used to believe that it was because I was single. "You seem to be thinking about this girl a lot." My wolf gave me a sly grin. Joel was the only one who was at fault for this. I could not get the concept out of my head after the moron implanted it. They, too, were without a partner. We would often jokingly speculate that we were likely mated, to which our wolves would tremble in amusement. I pulled up in front of my flat. My mother and father were unaware that I had purchased this condo. I was not ready to go home just yet, at least not until everyone who had come over as part of the greeting celebration had left. I knew she would tidy up my old room at home. This property was really lovely, and it served as my haven. I was charmed with it. It had a huge pool behind it and was well hidden behind big trees on all sides. It was true that luxury was invaluable.
