The contract

CHAPTER 003 The Contract Anna pov My hands trembled as I flipped through the papers, reading each of the words one after the other. Was he really serious about what you as written in here? I understood that he did not want this union but this? “When out in public, you are allowed to act as the ‘luna’. Your role will be to support your Alpha as best as you can but within my house and with no guest present, you are nothing to me.” His eyes flashed. “Do you understand? If I need something, I will send for you and if not, I would prefer end my day without seeing your face.” I swallowed but nodded. This was no different from my former life, the only thing that changed was that I was with a strange man who was supposed to be my mate. My sister’s mate, I corrected. What would he do if he found out my father sent the wrong sister? I shuddered. I hated to think about it so I ignored the thought all together. “Everything you need will be provided to you but that doesn’t give you any right to spend my money as you please,” he continued. “If you want your money, then you will have to work for it. As Luna, working will raise questions but I am sure I can arrange something.” He read out more commandments. Most of them were in the document but others were his personal wishes. I nodded my head to everything he said, making sure to avoid his eyes and keep my face as straight as I could. “Lastly,” he leaned forward on his desk slightly, his eyes biting into me. “I will never love you and you can never fall in love with me. If that happens, I will have no choice but to send you back to your father and you know how the werewolf community views failures.” I stilled. My heart stopped and my eyes stung. Leaving here was the worst thing that could happen to me. This was my one chance to prove to my father that I was not worthless and I could not waste it. Again, I nodded. I had a thousand and one questions to ask but the Alpha King’s did not seem like someone who would entertain any of them so I kept them to myself. His glare cut sharply through my flesh, sending an electrifying shudder through me. “Sign the document. It’s proof that you and I have come to an agreement. If you fail to follow any of the rules written there, you will be punished. You have three strikes and after that, punishment will not be enough to save you.” His lips twitched. “You will return to your father in shame.” Biting my bottom lip, I nodded. I signed the contract hastily, returning the contract document back to him. When he did not try to collect it from my outstretched hand, I placed it on the table and took a step back. “You may leave.” He instructed. I did not need to be told twice. My legs shook but at least they moved when I willed them to. I was half way to the door when I heard his voice again. “You will keep the story of this contract between us. If I hear if from another lips which isn’t yours or mine, then I will do my worst.” He paused as if to collect himself before continuing. “Someone is outside. They will show you your room and help you prepare for the union tomorrow. Try to stay out of my sight till then.” I retreated immediately, almost fleeing the room like I was being chased. True to his words, there was a lady waiting outside his office. “Please, this way.” She said flatly. Her demeanor offered no warmth or chance for a discussion. There was going to be no introductions, no niceties and chance for small talk. Not that I was interested in making one. If she suspected anything about what went on inside, she hid it well so I decides to hide me feelings as well. Plus, it would do me no good if people started to suspect that the Alpha King detested me. Quietly, I followed her down the narrow hallway and into an elevator which took us to the fifth floor. From there, it was a maze of twists and turns till she stopped in front of a door. “This will be your room.” She announced, pushing the door wide open. I peered inside the dimly lit room. Although the people here seem to have shitty hospitality, they knew how to make their rooms. The room in front of me was a major change from the attic which I used to sleep in back at home and was quite luxurious and spacious. “Preparations for your union with the Alpha King will begin today. One of the girls will be here to help you prepare.” She walked into the room, probably expecting me to follow after her. I did. “The Alpha King is someone who is very detailed and does not like chaos. Everyone in his house follows a strict schedule and I assume you are not going to be an exception. Breakfast is by eight in the morning, lunch is by twelve and dinner is by six. Whatever you’re doing must be over or put on hold before those hours.” All the time, I had plastered a smile on my face but the smile was beginning to slip. This place might prove to be even more hellish than the one I just left. “My name is Ivan, in case you need me for anything but my girls are always available and will be at your service. If you need someone to show you around then I will send someone tomorrow after the Union.” I forced my smile back into place. “Thank you.” Hesitating, I glanced around the room, weighing my next Weds carefully. “The Alpha King… is his room on this floor also?” The woman – Ivan – gave me a long stare as if gauging if she was to give me a response or not. After what felt like ages, she finally answered. “The Alpha King’s room is not on this level and it is off-limits to everyone.” Her stare became intense. “Everyone.” She repeated. I stumbled. Did she know about the contract too? Spinning on her heels, she sashayed to the door not stopping until she was out of it. Once the door clicked shut, I let out a sigh of relief and released my stilled nerves. Filling the shoes of my sister who was a perfectionist was very hard. For some reason, I felt the need to keep my spine straight at all times. Her gown – one of the two I had borrowed – was drawn too tight around my waist that I could barely breathe and I had been wearing it for what – three days? Felt like an eternity. I sank into the edge of the bed, wincing when my stomach grumbled it’s complaint. I could hardly recall the last time I had a decent meal. Between been a slave for my family and being on the road for three days, I had no time to eat good food. The bed was more comfortable than I expected it to be – more than I had at home – and soon I was beginning to doze off but a knock on the door startled me awake. The door creaked open almost immediately and a girl who looked about my age stepped inside. Her gaze flickered to me before settling on the wall behind my head. “I am here to help you prepare.” She said. Her tone was as flat as Ivan’s with no trace of excitement but her face was not as cold. Standing to my feet, I brushed imaginary dust off my dress before stumbling forward. “What’s your name?” The girl hesitated. “Lily.”
