Chapter 4

Cole couldn't tear his eyes away from her. Ever since Cole, Ezra, and Cameron had stepped up to the candle display to pick up the 20 candles still needed for the ceremony, he had an uncontrollable desire to look at the humans hovering at the other end of the isle from them.  When he finally gave in and looked towards the human, he found a pair of green eyes already observing him. Their eyes met, and everything around him disappeared. Cole had an intense desire to stalk down the isle to the human girl, almost as he would if she was prey. Every cell in his body was pushing him to her, so it took all of his supernatural strength to keep his feet planted firmly where they were. "Cole!" A pair of finger snapped in his face, breaking the trace.  "Huh?" He turned to face Ezra, who was giving him a strange look.  "You okay? Do you know her or something?" Ezra looked towards the girl who was frantically rushing away from them. "No. But something weird is happening," was all Cole said as he brushed past his best friends and followed the girl. She had stopped at a display of books, but didn't appear to actually looking at anything. The older guy, who Cole assumed to be her father, eyes widened at the sight of the three predators moving towards him. He quickly put himself between the girl and Cole. A growl crawled up Cole's throat. How dare that human try hide her from him? Cole had no idea what was happening or why he felt this way, but some deep animal part of him was all but forcing him to this human. "Can I help you?" The man's voice was strong, but underneath the false bravado, Cole could hear the shake of fear. Some part of this human knew to be frightened by Cole and his packmates. Good. The thought crossed Cole's mind before he could stop it. He had never been glad for humans to fear him. For some reason, he was glad for this human to fear him. "Hi, my name is Cole. I've never seen y'all here before. You must be new to town. I just wanted to introduce my self." Cole stuck out his hand. The man gave him a suspicious look, but reached out and shook his hand anyway. "I'm Jack. This is my daughter, Adalynn. We just moved in today. It's nice to meet you." The apprehension in Jack's voice was obvious, the fear still stinking up the air, but less so than it was before.  "Nice to meet y'all. These are my friends Ezra and Cameron." Cole motioned to each of the men on either side of him at the introduction. The two nodded at Jack, then shot each other questioning looks. Cole never once interacted with the humans, unless they initiated contact first. Jack glanced over his shoulder at Adalynn, who was standing frozen behind him. Maybe the awful smell of fear was coming from her, not Jack. At that thought, a loud growl threated to rip from his chest once more, but somehow he was able to contain it. There was absolutely no reason for her to fear him. Some part of Cole felt that he would never hurt her. In fact, he knew he would never hurt this girl. That it would hurt him more for any harm to come to her. It was a strange feeling that Cole couldn't even begin to understand. He had never once heard of any other wolf in history having this same reaction to any female, human or wolf.  "Hey, Adalynn. Would you like to go get some lunch with my friends and I? We can show you around town or something. Jack can finish shopping and you can hang out with us. That is, if it's okay with him if you hang out with us." Cole offered. It was a terrible idea, hanging out with a human girl. He should have just turned around and walked away without another word to them, but he couldn't. He couldn't just walk away from her, at least without trying to get to know her.  Something was happening. Something strange that Cole couldn't explain. Something he had never felt, or even heard of before. He couldn't fight the desire, the attraction to her. It was more than just her ethereal beauty, it was a desire to get to know her, to befriend her, and then maybe one day make her his future. That though scared the s**t out of him. His future was back home with the pack helping prepare for the mating ceremony. But this stunning blonde haired, green-eyed beauty was what he wanted his future to look like.  "I'm not sure that's a great idea. We have a lot of stuff to do today, and not much longer to get it done." Cameron cut in. Cole shot a dark look over his right shoulder at the younger wolf. Out of the three, Cole was the oldest, and the most dominate. Cameron dropped his eyes away from the stronger wolf. "But, I think we can make the time." His correction was quick. Oh, the joys of being the next Alpha. Cole turned his attention back to the humans in front of them. Adalynn was giving her father a look. One that Cole really couldn't decipher, but it seemed to make Jack cave. The man had appeared a bit hesitant at first, but gave in at the look in his daughter's eyes. "Fine, but meet me back here in an hour and a half. No later." Jack's voice was stern. He was making it pretty clear that he didn't really want his daughter to run off with these boys they had just met. Yet, somehow Adalynn had convinced him to let her go. "Yay! Thank you, Dad." She slung her arms around her father in a sudden hug. Jack couldn't help but return the hug. It was the first one she had given him in months. Adalynn waved to her father, then turned to the werewolves. Cole turned and the four headed towards the check out. He would call Tristian in a bit and have him pick everything else they still needed up.  It was time for Cole to get to know Adalynn, and hopefully get some answers as to what was going on here.
