Adalynn honestly couldn't believe her father had given in and allowed her to go to lunch with these strangely beautiful men. Standing with them, she felt tiny. Ada only stood at 5'2", with blonde hair that just barely brushed her shoulder. Her green eyes could make any man squirm if she stared at him long enough.
"So, Adalynn, old are you?" Cole asked as he paid for the few things the boys had already picked up.
"You can call me Ada. I'm 17." She answered. The boys all appeared to be about her age. Cole, the largest of the three was also the most attractive in her opinion.
"Ada." Cole tested the nickname out. A shiver skittered down her spine at the way her name rolled off his tongue.
Cole's friends, Cameron and Ezra, followed behind the two walking side by side.
Cameron shot a look at Ezra. Neither one of them had any idea what was happening. Cole went from dreading this trip and wanting to get to town and get home as fast as possible, to prolonging their time in the town by spending the afternoon with this strange human girl.
Ezra simply shrugged. He was actually kind of glad that Cole was starting to show an interest in girls, even if she was human. His best friend really needed to get laid at least one good time before he was tied to one girl for the rest of his life. There wasn't a single girl in the pack who would go that for Cole then. Even though he was the next Alpha in line, the females would still respect their future mates, and wait for them. It drove Ezra crazy, but he wouldn't push any of them. His mother had taught him to respect a woman and her wishes.
Together, the four of them made their way to a little diner across the street. Cole pulled his phone from his pocket and dialed Tristian's number.
"Cole, is everything ok?" Of course, the first thing Tristian assumed when Cole called was there was an issue. Warriors. Cole wanted to roll his eyes at the question, but he understood the importance and importance of Tristian's worry.
"Yeah, we're good. But is there anyway you can pick up the last few things we need still? I'll send you the list of the stuff we didn't get."
"Ruth and I can do that. Was there an issue back home, or something?" It didn't shock Cole that Tristian would want to know why Cole couldn't pick it up.
"No, nothing like that. I'll tell you about it later. Thanks." Cole hung up the phone before Tristian had the opportunity to argue with him.
"Here, Cam. Do you mind running these bags to the car?" Cole handed the bags in his hand to his best friend. Cameron took the bags with nothing more than an eye roll.
He'd already started towards the car, when Ezra yelled. "Dude. Keys!" Then tossed the keys to him. Without slowing, Cameron turned around and caught the keys.
At the diner, Cole held the door open for Ada as she took in the small 80's style diner.
"We live a ways from town, so we don't spend a lot of time in town. But, this has to be the best burger place in entire town." Cole explained as the three sat at a corner booth. Ada sat on one side, with Cole across from her and Ezra beside him.
"How far outside of town do you live?" Ada asked as a waitress appeared and set down menus in front of each of them.
"About 30ish minutes," Cole answered her, then turned his attention to the waitress." We've got one more person joining us, but we can get started without him." Cole shot the brunette a charming smile.
"Of course. What can I get y'all to drink then?" Cole looked to Adalynn, telling her without words to order first.
"I'll take a Coke please." Ada smiled sweetly at the end. Cole swore he felt his heart stop at the sight of her smile. It was the first one he had seen her give, and it made his heart stutter. Cole was so busy getting lost in Ada's smile, that he didn't realize the waitress was now just waiting on his order. Ezra had already ordered his and Cam's drinks.
"Sorry. I'll take a sweet tea."
"So, Ada, where are you from?" Ezra butted in after the waitress left.
"A little town in Arizona about 2 hours south of Phoenix." Ada answered as Cameron settled in the chair right beside her.
"Why did you leave?" Cameron asked. All three of the boys were pretty nosy about her, maybe her history would answer some of their questions.
"Uh, it was kind of a personal reason. It had to do with my mom and some really nasty rumors." It was pretty obvious she didn't really want to talk about it, so none of the guys pushed her.
The drinks came, and the four of them ordered.
"Have all of you lived here your entire life?" Ada took a sip from the cup in front of her.
"Yep, born and raised. Won't ever leave it, either" Ezra said, tossing a fry as the waitress set their plates down in front of them.
"What do you mean? You don't have any plans on leaving this town? Ever?" Ada couldn't believe that none of them ever wanted to leave it here. That they would never want to leave their parents, and explore the world.
"Nope. We're supposed to take over the family business. Our fathers' work closely together, and we've been training to take over for them one day." Cameron explained. Every since they were old enough to start making trips into the town, they had fabricated the elaborate story of their fathers working together. It was the perfect story to tell anyone who asked pretty much anything about them. Since, they weren't ever actually leaving this town, it worked perfectly.
"You've never even had the choice to leave? You're destiny has always been to stay here and take over the family business?" Ada couldn't even begin to imagine never having even the choice to leave.
"Nah. But we're all pretty content with the idea of never having to leave. This business has been in the family for years. We've known since we were born pretty much that its what we were destined to do." Cole elaborated. Ada nodded, and thought it over. Maybe having your destiny already figured out wouldn't be terrible.
