The school day seemed to pass by quickly and when the final bell rang, my nerves had left me in a wreck. I walked towards my locker slowly, trying to calm down. Suddenly I was tackled from behind, causing me and the person to fall to the ground. I groaned in pain, throwing the person on top of me off. "How could you not tell me you had a date with Max Cooper?!" Riley's voice seemed to echo throughout the hallway. I stared at her with wide eyes before slapping my hand over her mouth. A few people glanced our way and I quickly dismissed them by giving them an apologetic smile. Suddenly something wet travelled up my hand and I pulled away quickly, staring at Riley with disgust. "You licked me!" Riley just shrugged, giving me an innocent smile. I sighed, a smile creeping onto my lips. "So are you going to tell me how this happened?" She helped me up before placing her hands on her hips, her foot tapping the tiles impatiently. "It's nothing. He's just taking me out for lunch to apologize..."
"For kissing you. Yeah I heard that part, but why did you agree? I thought you hated the guy?" I bit my bottom lip nervously. Why did I agree to go with him? "I don't hate him..." Riley suddenly got a knowing smirk on her face. "Oh my gosh. Is the 'oh so cold' Sophia Cardison starting to develop a crush on the handsome new guy?" I scoffed at her, shaking my head. "In your dreams." Although I disagreed, I could feel a blush creeping it's way onto my cheeks. Riley smiled at me lovingly. "I'm happy for you Sophia. I just hope he doesn't hurt you. You've already been through enough." She pulled me into a hug and I felt tears form in my eyes. I also hope for that.

I told Max I'd meet him at Mrs. Gwyneth's diner while I quickly went home to freshen up. When I got home, I instantly went into the bathroom, taking the contacts out as quickly as I could. The white of my eyes were now red from irritation. I hated that the contacts did this. It prevented me from wearing it too long, which prevented from really hanging out in public with friends. Just imagine all the questions that would be asked. I sighed, realising that Max was probably waiting at the diner. I looked at myself in the mirror, wincing slightly as the blood red pupils stared back at me. My eyes always seemed to remind me of that night. That night I murdered my parents. I rammed my fist into the mirror, shattering it into hundreds of tiny pieces. I sunk down to the floor, tears falling down my face. I stared at my bloody hand, seeing how it slowly heals. I guess the perks of a vampire weren't too bad. I quickly pulled myself together. You have to be strong Sophia. For your parents. I stood up, putting on my sunglasses before making my way towards my bike. I wasn't going to be weak anymore. I was going to strive.
Shortly after I parked in front of the diner. The bell above the door rang when I entered. I took a deep breath in, smelling his alluring scent. My eyes darted to where he sat, already staring back at me. I walked towards him, my sneakers hitting the wooden floor. I slipped into the seat across from him, staring at him through my dark lenses. He smirked at me, tilting his head to the side. "Come on Sophia, there's no need for the glasses." I looked out the way, ignoring his comment. I heard him sigh, before speaking in a quiet voice. "Sophia, I know you're a vampire." My body tensed up. I slowly turned my head towards him, staring at him with wide eyes. I opened my mouth, trying to speak, but no words seemed to come out. I abruptly stood, wanting to leave, but he quickly grabbed my hand, looking at me with pleading eyes. "Please don't leave." I stared at him for a second before slowly sitting down. "How?" He looked down, a sad smile forming on his lips. "I've been caught up in the whole vampire situation for a while."
I looked at him confused. How could he be involved with vampires? He seemed to notice my confused looked, because he suddenly sighed before looking out the window. "My mother was killed by a vampire." I gasped at the news. I reached over the table and mindlessly took his hand in mine. He seemed surprised, staring at my hand wide eyed. "I'm sorry that had to happen to you. I know how it feels to lose your parents to a monster." He looked at me with sad eyes. "A vampire killed your parents too?" I bit my bottom lip nervously. "Something like that..." he looked at me with suspecting eyes, squeezing my hand in support. I took in a deep breath before blurting out the one thing I have never told anyone. "I killed my parents." An awkward silence fell across the table as Max stared at me. Tears came to my eyes and I pulled my hand away from his, pulling my knees to my chest and folding my arms over them. "I knew this was a bad idea." my voice as barely above a whisper as I stared out the large window. "Do you blame yourself?" His words caught me off guard and for a second I just stared at him. Then I averted my gaze towards the table, before my voice whispered. "Every single day."
