Prologue
The sound of my footsteps hitting the sidewalk the only sound filling the night. It was late and everything was dark and quiet. I had decided to spend the night at my best friend, Riley's place. Well, that was until Riley decided to invite a 'few other friends' over. The few other friends eventually turned into a full-on party. Now you see, I don't have any problems with parties, actually I can sometimes be quite a party-animal, but when it comes to Riley's parties, it can sometimes get too wild. The previous party she threw, at least three guys woke up butt-naked on her lawn.
I snickered at the memory. I walked past Mrs. Gwyneth's store, which so happened to be my favourite diner, and waved at her as she locked up. I looked up at the dark sky as I continued on. It was a beautiful night, the stars winking down at us. I closed my eyes, inhaled the cool air and smiled to myself. The night always seemed to calm me. It made me feel safe to be under the light of the moon and stars.
Suddenly I felt a large hand grasp my upper arm and throw me across the street. My body bounced off a brick wall with a loud thud. Never mind feeling safe at night anymore. As my limp body hit the ground, I heard a high-pitched scream fill the otherwise silent night. I recognised that sound anywhere. It was Mrs. Gwyneth.
I groaned at I tried to sit up, but a sharp pain seemed to shoot through my head. I groaned louder this time as I gently touched the back of my head. A wetness came into contact and as I pulled my hand back into my blurry vision, I saw that it was covered with a dark red liquid. Blood. I gasped loudly. I looked up and saw a shadowy figure looming over me. The only thing clearly visible about it were its blood red eyes and pearl white fangs that seemed to glow in the little moonlight that now shone through a dark cloud.
I crawled back, but my back hit the wall all to quickly, ruining any plan of escaping I had. The figure snickered to itself, before pouncing at me, lifting me up by my neck with a strong hold. I clawed at its freakishly large hand, trying to pry open his fingers, but it didn't budge. With lightning speed, it bent my head back, the now-cloudy sky being my only view. I felt its surprisingly cold breath fanning over my warm skin, goose-bumps erupting all over my body. I suddenly felt something sharp pierce the skin on my neck. I tried to say something, to scream, but it was as if my vocal chords were removed as no sound came out. The pain that came after the pierce was excruciating.
The pain consumed my whole body, as if venom had been inserted into my veins. This time, a scream came out of my mouth, but it sounded extremely weak. My body suddenly felt drained. I didn't try to get out of its strong grip anymore, I didn't try to struggle or scream. I just... hung there. Just as I was about sure that this thing was about to drain the last bit of life out of me, it dropped me to the ground.
I lay there, feeling numb as my blurry vision made out two figures standing before me. The one figure was small and feminine and in their hold seemed to be a large pipe, which probably meant that Mrs. Gwyneth finally came to my aid. The shadowy figure stared at her for a moment, seeming to hesitate, before running of with lightning speed, disappearing into the nothingness that was now the night. Mrs. Gwyneth crouched in front of me, rambling on about something, but all I heard was a slight buzzing noise. The last thing I saw before I drifted off into unconsciousness, were the red and blue lights of the police and medical vehicles as they made their way to our location.
