He suddenly reached across the table, cupping my face between his hands, forcing me to look at him. "Don't ever blame yourself for something you had no control over." A tear slipped down my cheek. I pulled away and quickly wiped it away. "How would you know that I had no control?" He smiled at me knowingly. "You were recently changed when you killed them, am I right?" I nodded, not daring to look him in the eye. "Sophia, you really shouldn't blame yourself. It is only normal for a newborn vampire to lose control when feeding." I stared at him, pain filling my eyes. "But they were my parents! I could've atleast found the will to stop, but I didn't. I wanted their blood more than I've ever wanted anything. I didn't stop and now they paid the price for my selfish act."
Tension filled the space between us as we stared at each other and apparently the waiter noticed as well because as soon as he placed down our drinks, he scurried back to the kitchen. "Can I see your eyes?" I looked at him hesitantly. I was grateful for the subject change, but was I ready to accept the new subject with open arms? I took the sunglasses between my fingers, hesitating only for a second before pulling them off. For a second I only stared at the table, too scared to meet his eyes. "You can look at me. I promise I won't freak out." I looked up at him through my lashes. His mouth was slightly a gapped. "Beautiful."
A blush creeped onto my cheeks and a small smile formed on my lips. "I wish. Max, these are the eyes of a killer. They're anything, but beautiful." I quickly put the sunglasses back on, staring straight into his eyes again. He smiled at me sweetly. "That's where you're wrong Sophia. Those eyes? They shine brighter than a ruby under a thousand stage lights. They hold a story behind them and show raw emotion. They are the most beautiful things I've ever seen." I looked at him in utter shock. No one has ever said anything like that to me.
Well it's not like they could cause, you know, no one has ever actually seen your true eyes colour.
Hey! Voice in my head?
Yes?
Just shut up already. You're ruining the moment.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" He seemed uncomfortable with my question, before covering it up with a smirk. "You see Sophia, you're different than any other vampire. You can walk in the sun, eat human food and control your thirst better than any other vampire in this world. You are truly unique." Well guess the books and movies were actually right and I'm just the odd vamp out. After that, we talked and laugh about utter nonsense. He was actually a really nice guy when I actually got to know him. It was starting to get dark outside and we decided to make our separate ways.
"I had a fun time." I smiled, a blush creeping on my face as he stared down at me. "Me too. Thank you for today." he chuckled. "I should be the one thanking you. You gave me second chance, even after what I've done. You still chose to search for the good in me." I looked up at him, seeing his eyes suddenly turn sad. I placed my hand on his cheek, smiling sweetly at him. "Max, I believe everyone has a good and caring side, even the baddest of people. They usually just have to find the right person to love them." I stood on my tippy toes and kissed him softly on the cheek. He tensed up for a second, before relaxing into my touch. "Good night." my whisper seemed to calm him down as he watched me walk over towards my bike. I gave him a slight wave before I road off into the dark night, his mesmerizing eyes never leaving my mind.

It's been a week since me and Max's date (since Riley kept on insisting that it was a date) and it couldn't have been better. We became a lot closer over this and we hung out a lot more often. At this moment, we were sitting on a bench at a near by park, watching little kids running around, seeming to play tag. I lay with my head on his shoulder and our fingers laid entwined on his lap. We were busy talking about our childhood memories, when suddenly his phone interrupted us. He glanced down at the caller ID and his body suddenly became tense. "I... um, I have to take this." He quickly got up and walked away, getting out of earshot. Well, human earshot. I knew what I was about to do was wrong, but the stressed out look on his handsome face stopped me from thinking twice. He was quite far, but his words were still audible.
"Yes, I'm with her now." there was a second of silence before he seemed to lose his temper at whatever the person on the line said. "No! I will not do that." He clenched his fist, punching a nearby tree, scaring the crap out of a couple passing by. I tried not to laugh and tried to concentrate on the conversation. I suddenly heard the beep of a phone, meaning he ended the call. Damn it! I missed the rest of the conversation. Stupid couple! "Hey Soph, sorry for taking so long." I smiled up at him, trying to act oblivious. "Who was it?" He bit his lips nervously and scratched the back of his neck. "My brother. He said he needed me home to help him with one of his work projects. I'm so sorry Soph, but I have to go. I promise I'll make it up to you." He kissed my forehead before rushing off. I know I should probably just let him go, but I had this bad feeling in my gut that didn't want to leave. Guess I'll be stalking Max Cooper to where ever he leads me.
