It was finally time and I was on edge. Aunt Bridget said her plane was landing in three hours. And that was three hours ago! I was nervous, I knew that much and I had no idea what I would of if she finally arrived here. It was now too late to try to make any excuses. I let out a loud sigh and fell onto the couch, my hands covering my face. Just then a loud knock came from the door. I jumped up, my nerves starting to eat me alive.
I slowly reached for the door handle, hesitating only for a second, before flinging open the door, revealing Aunt Bridget standing before me, looking as young and beautiful as ever. Her strawberry blonde hair was pulled back into a high ponytail and she looked slightly out of breath as she leaned against one of her many large bags. Her piercing blue eyes smiled at me. "Hey pumpkin. Missed me?"
She reached forward and pulled me into a long and loving hug. I was tense for a moment before finally relaxing into her touch, wrapping my arms around her curvy waist and pulling her tighter. Unwanted tears were by now streaming down my face. Aunt Bridget pulled back, her cheeks also tear-stained as she started at me with loving eyes. "I've missed you so much Sweetie." I gave her a small smile. "I've missed you too." I helped her carry her bags into my parents old bedroom, which I'd spent two whole days cleaning out, which mostly consisted of me crying my heart out. "I hope you don't mind sleeping here, the guest room kind of turned into a storage room."
I scratched my shoulder nervously as I stared at her face. Tears brimmed her eyes, but she quickly blinked it away. She smiled at me before her smile quickly turned into a frown. "Oh Sweetie, why are you wearing those sunglasses inside? You're going to damage your eyesight! Take those silly things off." She reached forward, but I quickly stepped back. "I'd rather not do that." Aunt Bridget rolled her eyes. "Oh come on, don't be silly now. Give me the sunglasses." She reached for it again, but this time I turned my back towards her. "I said no okay?! Can't you just let me be?! You've barely been here ten minutes and already you're trying to change me! I'm happy the way I am so just leave me alone!"
I quickly ran to my room, slamming the door behind me. I leaned against it and slid to the floor, tears streaming down my face. I didn't want to snap at her, but I panicked. I didn't know what to do. A soft knock came from behind me and I sniffed loudly, wiping at my nose with my sleeve. "Go away!" I heard Aunt Bridget sigh heavily. "I'm sorry pumpkin if I said anything wrong. I didn't mean to pressure you into anything. If that is your way of grieving or changing then... I'll leave you be. I'll respect your choices. I just want you to know that if there's ever anything bothering you, you can always come to me. I won't judge." I tried to hold back a sob at her words. How do I know that she'd really not judge me? Only one way to find out.
I bit my bottom lip, pondering on my options. "Promise you won't judge?" I heard her sigh in relief. "Oh of course honey! I promise!" I licked my bottom lip before standing up slowly, opening the door only to a slit so I could peek through at her. "Cross your heart?" She smiled at me sweetly before making an x over the place where her heart is. I slowly nodded before opening the door wider. She walked in, sitting crossed legged on my bed. I quickly closed the door and locked it, before looking out the window and shutting the blinds. "What's with the secrecy sweetie?" I closed my eyes briefly. "You'll understand in a moment." my words were barely above a whisper. I looked over at her before going to sit in front of her. I took her hand in mine and looked deeply into her eyes. "Okay so you've heard about vampires before right?" She looked confused but nodded her head non or less. "Okay so what I'm about to show you next, don't freak out about it. Okay?" She hesitated for a second before nodding again slowly. I quickly blew out the breath I have been holding before pulling off the sunglasses. I heard Aunt Bridget gasp as I stared deeply into her eyes. "Well Aunt Bridget, I'm... a vampire."
