Chapter 14. Spanner in the works

The loan to buy the car was pretty much. Sarah and Jacob where now just barely making ends meet, with a new baby.

They moved into a cheaper place 10 doors away from their current house.

It was a free standing outbuilding. Old and shabby. But it would have to do.

They settled in. Sarah was on maternity leave and only received one third of a salary from work and every month she sat at the unemployment office to collect another one third.

This was a big change. Sarah told herself its ok, just four months to struggle it out and I will be back at work.

Sarah decided to work part time at a big brand pharmacy to make extra money. Her aunts mother in law offered to look after Alex in that time and also when Sarah went back to work. Sarah was relieved to have Alex well taken care off.

Sarah worked part time and everyday on her lunch she would call Mrs Bell to check how Alex was.

One day, she called and her cousin answered. Mrs Bell had a heart attack. She passed away an hour ago.

Sarah was shocked. Her cousin assured her that Alex was ok and that her dad has him.

Sarah worked with a saddened heart. Mrs Bell was a loving woman. Although she was her aunts mother in law she treated Sarah, Jacob and Alex as her own.

It was Sarah's rotten luck, whenever something was going right, it would take a turn for the worse causing stress to her happiness which was always short lived.

This all happened a few days before she returned to work. Sarah was extremely stressed. Eventually she had put Alex in a creche. It was hard, she cried and prayed that he would be kept safe,may no illness fall upon him.

Sarah returned to work after four months, she still had to work shifts although she was still breast feeding.

She worked two jobs since money was tight.

There was an add for a cheap new car on sale. Sarah still earned very little so she had asked her dad to take finance in his name and she would pay him the installment.

He did. Sarah now owned a Tata Indica. It wasnt the top of the range cars but she needed something reliable for work and especially since she had Alex. Also since she also worked two jobs, she needed to travel to different pharmacies to work after hours.

Sarah and Jacob worked every day, every weekend, sending Alex to Mrs White or her aunt, sister or a work friend. Mrs Daniel had made it clear in the beginning. She would not be looking after anyone's children, she needs to enjoy her life now, after apparently looking after her four children for so many years.

But what a hypocrite she is.

She watches Emilys children some afternoons and every weekend on the sly. Chuck and her even take them out. All this on the sly as if we don't know, always saying she never sees them. Haha hahaha! How can you not see them when they live right underneath your nose.

Sarah and Jacob worked hard, all month, all year until they were back on their feet financially. Jacob worked double shifts at work and took up a dj job on the weekends getting paid a few hundred for assisting with wedding functions. Sarah worked her normal permemant job and weekends after work she worked at other pharmacies.

Their life was tiring but ends were being met.
