I was still awake when Amber came home. I’d been working on some things in my room instead of sitting in my office, so I knew the moment she returned. As she walked through the door, I could finally breathe a little easier. She kicked off her heels, clearly tired of them, before she noticed me sitting by my desk.
She smiled and walked over to me. The moment she was close enough, I pulled her onto my lap and kissed her, but as I pulled back, I noticed something.
“Why do you have red lipstick on the corner of your mouth?” I asked.
Amber laughed, and I studied her, confused.
“Oh, yeah, Everly kissed me,” she said.
