I watched Amber leave, surprised she didn’t keep fighting me. Gavin quickly stepped aside, knowing it was best not to get in her way. When she was gone, he turned to me.
“I shouldn’t pry, should I?”
I shook my head. “No, but could you show me where I can dispose of this?” I presented the needle.
Gavin inspected it with confusion, then glanced back at me. “What’s in it?”
“I’m not completely sure,” I admitted. “But Amber was on the verge of injecting herself with it, so I suspect it’s some sort of sedative.”
“Why?”
“Her heat is closer than I anticipated. It seems she has been pushing it back for many years,” I explained.
“How long exactly?” Gavin’s expression grew more concerned as he extended his hand.
I shrugged. “Many.”
He disposed of the needle in a designated container
