Chapter 1: Collision Course
The first time Kai Rivers met Aiden Cross, he nearly threw his sketchbook at him.
“You call this art?” Aiden’s voice sliced through the crowded studio, sharp and unyielding. His piercing grey eyes scanned Kai like he was some defect in the world’s design.
Kai’s fingers twitched, gripping the sketchbook tighter. “It’s called inspiration, not imitation,” he replied evenly, his voice calm despite the heat rising in his chest.
Aiden smirked, a slow, dangerous curl of his lips. “Inspiration doesn’t pay bills, kid. You’ll see what happens when I take over this project.”
Kai’s eyes narrowed. “You’re in over your head, Cross.”
That’s when it happened a collision. Literally. Aiden stepped back to glare, and Kai, already tense, stumbled forward. Sketchbook tumbled to the floor, pages scattering like autumn leaves.
“Oh, this is going to be… interesting,” Aiden muttered under his breath, kneeling to help pick up the papers.
Kai’s heartbeat quickened, not entirely from fear. There was something in Aiden’s eyes a flicker, a crack in the armor that made him pause.
And in that moment, Kai realized this man would either ruin him… or change him forever.
