The Choice Serenye's POV The concrete slab came down like the hand of God. I saw it in the fractured light filtering through gaps in the rubble, a massive piece of broken ceiling tumbling end over end, falling directly toward us. Directly toward Caius's head. It missed by inches. The slab crashed down beside us with a boom that made my ears ring, so close that fragments of it sprayed across my face. If it had fallen two inches to the left, Caius would be dead. His skull would be crushed and I would be lying there with his body and there would be nothing, nothing I could do about it.
