Chapter two

1498 Words
Olivia’s POV The first thing I felt was pain. A dull ache pulsed through my skull, dragging me slowly from the darkness. I tried to open my eyes, but the brightness above me forced them shut again. Where was I? A soft beep sounded beside me. Something cold was taped to my hand, and the sharp scent of antiseptic filled my nose. Then the memory hit me. The staircase. His hands. The fall. And that horrifying pool of blood spreading beneath me. My eyes flew open. A white ceiling stared back at me. I tried to move, but pain shot through my body, I gasped sharply. “Where am I?” I whispered. A figure suddenly appeared beside my bed. “You’re in the hospital.” Hospital? My heart began pounding. I looked down at myself, searching for the blood I’d seen before everything went blank. But there was none. My mind raced. If I was alive… Then whose blood had I been lying in? And more importantly— What had happened after I fainted ? The doctor’s expression gave it away , I knew something was wrong “You were brought in by a man ,he left few minutes ago.I’m sorry , There was complication. You lost the pregnancy .” For a moment, I didn’t understand her words. Lost the pregnancy? Then it hit me. My hand slowly moved to my stomach, and my breath caught in my throat. “No…” The room seemed to spin around me. I had been so focused on surviving the fall that I hadn’t even thought about the tiny life growing inside me. And now, it was gone. A broken sob escaped my lips as I stared at the doctor, desperately wishing she would take the words back. But she didn’t. She only lowered her eyes. That was when my heart shattered all over again. For the first time since I opened my eyes, a tiny glimpse of hope stirred inside me. Someone had brought me here. A man. My heart skipped. It had to be Damian. Who else could it be? Despite everything he had done, despite the image that kept haunting me,Damian in bed with Eliana, my best friend, I found myself desperately wanting him to be the one who had saved me. Maybe he had regretted it. Maybe seeing me lying there, bleeding and broken had finally made him realize what he had done to me. Maybe Eliana had been the reason Damian cheated. What if she had pushed him toward her from the beginning, slowly turning him against me while pretending to be my friend . My stomach twisted. “ My Damian is not like that , I just need to see him and talk it out “I whispered to myself . After what felt like an eternity, the doctor finally allowed me to leave. I slowly pushed myself out of the hospital bed, still weak and sore from the fall. Every movement reminded me of what had happened, but I refused to stay there another minute. I need to get to Damian’s house. I made my way through the hospital corridor, keeping one hand against the wall whenever my legs threatened to give way . I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t see the man coming around towards me. Thud. I crashed straight into him. “Watch where you’re going, I hissed ”. The words slipped out before I could stop them,I know I was at fault but I could not control it . I left immediately though his eyes were fixed on me as if he wanted to say something . By the time I reached Damian’s house, my heart was beating faster than it should have. I stood outside his door for a few seconds, staring at it. This was the man who had broken my heart. The man I had caught in bed with my best friend. And yet, here I am, standing at his doorstep. Because despite everything, I had believed one thing. Damian had saved me because he loves me. He was the man who had taken me to the hospital. At least, that was what I had been told. And a small part of me had held onto that fact like my life depended on it. I know he still cares. Maybe seeing me lying unconscious and covered in blood had shaken him. Maybe he had realized that losing me was worse than whatever had happened between him and Eliana. I knocked. Nothing. I knocked again, harder this time. The door finally opened. Damian stood there. For a second, I couldn’t breathe. He looks completely fine. No panic. No guilt. No sign that he’d spent the last few hours wondering whether I would survive. Just Damian. The same Damian who had destroyed me. “Damian…” His expression immediately hardened. “What are you doing here?” My heart sank, but I forced myself to smile. “I wanted to see you.” “You shouldn’t have come.” I swallowed. “I heard you were the one who brought me to the hospital.” Something shifted in his expression, but it disappeared so quickly that I almost thought I’d imagined it. “Thank you.” The word came out softer than I intended. His eyebrows drew together. “I mean it, Damian . Thank you for taking me there. I don’t know what would have happened to me if you hadn’t.” He stared at me without saying anything. I waited for him to say something comforting. Anything. Instead, he sighed. “Are you done?” My smile disappeared. “Done???” “Whatever this is, I don’t have time for it.” I stared at him. “Damian please.” He rolled his eyes. That tiny gesture broke something inside me. “I just need to talk to you.” “About what?” I hesitated. “About us.” “There is no us anymore.” The words hit harder than I expected. I blinked rapidly. “Damian, I know what happened with Eliana…” “Then you should know there’s nothing left to discuss.” My throat tightened. “I know you cheated on me. I know you hurt me. But I thought maybe…” My voice trembled. “Maybe you still cared about me.” He gave a humorless laugh. “Why would you think that?” Because you took me to the hospital. Because I thought there was still something good left in you. Because I was stupid enough to think saving my life meant you still loved me. But I couldn’t say any of that. Instead, I whispered, “Because you saved me.” Damian’s face remained expressionless. I stepped closer. “I thought maybe taking me to the hospital meant you were worried about me.” Silence. “I lost our baby “ My lips trembled. He shrugged . Damian simply stared at me . No shock , No sadness . Nothing. “Did you hear me ??” “Yes”. “That’s it?”. My heart sank. “Trying to make me feel guilty?” I stared in disbelief. “Guilty”? “You came here expecting me to feel sorry for you”. “I’m not asking you to feel sorry for me,” I whispered. “I’m asking you to care.”. A tear slipped through my cheek , I quickly wiped it away. Damian stepped back and grabbed the edge of the door . “You need to leave “. “Damian, please. I don’t have anyone else to talk to .” “That sounds like a you problem.” “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.” “Figure it out”. He pushed the door wider. I thought he might finally let me inside, instead he pointed towards the driveway. “Get out.” I stared at him. You’re really throwing me out ?” “Yes.” His eyes hardened. “Whatever happened between us is over” I shook my head , unable to believe this is the man that saved my life . “Why did you save me ? I thought you care ?!!!. “I didn’t save you “. The words were quiet but heavy . I stood there for another moment, tears running freely down my face. Then Damian looked away and shut the door . I turned around slowly. Every step away from his house felt like I was leaving another piece of myself behind. I had come there thinking I owed him gratitude. Thinking he had saved me. Thinking maybe, Despite all the betrayal, he still had a heart that cared about me. But I had been wrong. And as I walked away, one question kept tearing through my mind. If Damian hadn’t taken me to the hospital ….then who had?
