Jay’s POV
The weekend went by smoothly. I had the best of the weekends since I came to this place. I was already missing her, and thinking about spending next weekend together gave me goosebumps. I was going to go out with her. I know now she’s more than suspicious of me. I have been flirting with her discreetly and I know she has caught the hints, and she is too smart not to.
Monday morning, I got to work to find Ally waiting for me. I had ignored her in conversations all through the weekend. She had pissed me off, I had to teach her a lesson. I said good morning and passed her. She walked to my desk and sat on it. I was wondering what was with her.
She looked at me as I was doing my things, ignoring her, she then said the words that caught my attention.
“Jay, I’m sorry, I was out of line the other day, please.” I looked up at her and I saw the genuineness in her eyes. I was tired of ignoring s**t, I decided to let it slide.
“Sometimes know your audience, stop messing around too much!” I said, smiling. And before I forgot, I added, “Ally, be careful how you talk to Mira, she’s naive and not ready for your craziness.” I looked at her and she was smiling. I gave her a stern look and she conceded.
“Okaay! Don’t kill me.” She smiled at me mischievously. I knew she wanted to say something and I knew we would have this conversation sooner or later.
“What?” I asked her with a glare.
“If I ask you something will you be mad at me again?” She had stopped smiling. I already knew what she wanted to say, and I assured her I wouldn’t be mad.
“It’s okay, go on and ask, I won’t be mad.” I smiled at her.
“Why are you so overprotective of Mira?” She asked me almost in a whisper. I'm glad she knew this was a sensitive topic for me.
“Because she’s so young and naive, do you want to poison her mind with your dirty mouth?” I asked her seriously.
“Of course not, I wouldn’t do such a thing.” She replied, looking down. I just chuckled at that.
“Of course, you won’t. How many times have I stopped you from doing exactly that?” I questioned her. She knew I was right. When I looked at her, I knew it wasn’t over yet.
“Now what Ally, why are you looking at me like that?” she was starting to annoy me.
“Are you straight?” She blurted out before she could hold her tongue. I didn’t expect that question. I thought she wanted to talk about Mira. She has suspicions about me, I see.
“What, why are you asking me such a personal question?” I arched my brows questioningly. She’s crazy if she thinks she will corner me like that. I will tell Mira first. I don’t want you running your mouth to her scaring her off. I hated the way she grills me when she wants information.
“Just say I have my suspicions, and the way you don’t like men makes me wonder?” Ally responded with a smug smirk.
“So Cody is a woman now, right?” If she thought she was smart, then she doesn’t know me.
“I didn’t say that! Cody is our friend, which makes him an exception.”
“Whether I am straight or not, I don’t think it’s any of your business, Ally,” I replied with a wry smile.
“Do you like Mira?” When I heard that, I snapped my head in her direction. Before I could say anything she added, “I have seen the way you look at that girl, even the way you treat her is different. I saw how the other day. When we went to the park, you were all gentleman on her, the look you always have when she walks in here is……...” She didn’t get to finish her statement. I cut her off.
“Mira is more like a baby sister to you Ally, I can’t believe you are thinking these things about her, she is our baby girl.” I could tell she didn’t believe s**t, but I didn’t want to talk to her about my feelings or my sexuality.
“She likes you too, you know,” She said, smiling evilly.
“What did you just say?” I think this woman is really crazy.
“Mira might have feelings for you if you continue doing what you are doing,” f**k! She’s superb at this. I chuckled, knowing that she wanted me to spill the beans. I’m too smart for her tricks.
“What exactly do you think I am doing, Ally?” I asked her, looking confused. I would love to hear what she has to say.
“Don’t you think you are leading her on?” She’s too nosy!
“Ally darling, don’t misunderstand my actions,” I said, raising my brows, then I remembered something, “And is she the one who is misreading my actions or you?” I gazed at her.
The look on her face gave her away. I guess she thought I wasn’t aware of how she gazed at me with those dreamy eyes. She thought I was too caught up with Mira to notice her behavior around me.
“W..what are you talking about?” She sounded tense. I knew it, she liked me.
“It was nothing, let that girl be, we protect her because she is our baby girl, and she’s too young to understand these men going after her in this hospital and we both know they will just mess with her,” I said that almost greeting my teeth. I hated it already that she had a boyfriend, and it seemed like the men here wanted her too.
She was still in shock. I just let her be. I had caught her drooling over me a few times, but I just ignored it. She is one of my close friends right now, and I will never see her more than that. I just hope she understands that too.
Ally’s POV
This conversation is a result of what I have been seeing. Yes, I know I like scandals and gossip, but I can’t be wrong on this one. Something is going on, I just don’t know what exactly. I find myself trailing over to the weekend.
Flashback
The date out with Jay and Mira was awesome. I had suggested to Jay we take my car. When I picked her up, I asked her to drive us. I just wanted to enjoy being driven around by her, I wanted to be her co-driver, although something told me Mira would take the place when we fetched her.
I enjoyed the short drive to Mira’s place. It took us twenty minutes. I was watching Jay drive, we chatted about random things. She was talking about how our male colleagues were male w****s. I laughed, thinking of how they were all over me on the first days at work.
She even sounded annoyed about a few who were going after Mira. I smirked thinking of the possibility of her liking Mira. It reminded me I will have to watch them closely today. I hoped I was wrong though, only God knows why.
She glanced at me once in a while. I liked her smile. I had to admit to myself that Jay is so cute. I noticed her muscles under that tight t-shirt. Maybe she works out. She always wore loose shirts and t-shirts to work. Most of her shirts were long-sleeved, she always looked so stunning.
When we reached Mira’s place she texted her to come out. We didn’t want to go in because we knew her mum was around. A few minutes later, Mira walked towards our car, and we got out of the car waiting. She wore that black dress that sent my friend drooling. I whistled at the sight in front of me. This girl is something. After what happened, she still chose to wear this!?
Jay was busy on her phone and when she heard me she looked up and caught sight of Mira. You should have seen the look in her eyes. Did this girl dress to impress her? I was now wondering. I was watching them in astonishment, the smile on Mira’s face when she saw the look on Jay's face, was that I got what I wanted kind.
Jay was devouring her as she approached us, she was following as Mira’s hips swayed around. I have never seen a woman looking at another woman this way, it was amazing to watch them. I have heard of gays and I have seen a couple because of my line of work, but I haven't seen any ladies. Does Mira have any idea that it’s possible for Jay to like her romantically?
Envy was written all over my face if they cared to notice me. Fortunately, they didn’t notice, and I was glad. When she reached us, I said hello first, then Jay, their hug lasted longer than it usually does. They seemed to enjoy it. Could it be that she also likes Jay? I thought Mira was straight? I shook my head at my thoughts, I was assuming things.
Unfortunately, my wish to ride in the front seat with Jay remained to be a wish. When Mira tried to go and sit at the back, Jay opened the front door for her. I felt a bit sad, but I knew I was getting nowhere with this.
When Mira looked at me as if to ask if it was okay, I smirked at her and nodded my head. Anyway, this way I can watch them the entire ride. I watched how Mira was watching her, she was checking her out. Jay was very careful. She glanced at Mira once in a while, flashing her some beautiful smiles. She spared me a few from the rearview mirror.
Mira was staring at her and got lost in her thoughts that she didn’t hear when Jay asked us what we would do first. I had to touch her to get her attention. Her face turned red from the way she was blushing, knowing she had been caught staring. Jay was grinning, I bet she liked it.
We had agreed on eating first. We got there and what Jay did made my mouth wide open, she took the piece of chicken that Mira was eating and started munching on it. Mira was staring at her with a look of astonishment. Her lips curved into a big smile. When Jay found her looking she winked at her. Mira smiled and went back to her food.
By the end of the day, I had seen enough to conclude that Jay for sure liked Mira more than friends. She was so affectionate towards her. Mira was her weakness. I could see it written all over her. These two have been going at it for so long, that I could tell they liked each other.
But does Mira know what was going on or was she so naive to even realize that Jay didn’t see her as a friend anymore? I was in my own world on our way back home after dropping Mira off. They even had a private conversation where Mira was a blushing mess.
I decided I would have a talk with Jay and ask what was going on. What if Jay is straight and Mira is falling for her? Are they straight or not? I was thinking hard. I don’t know why it matters to me anyway.
End of flashback.
When I asked Jay about her being straight, she dodged my question and deemed it to be personal. When I said something about her leading Mira on, I didn’t know I was bringing doom to myself. She asked me point-blank if it was Mira I was worried about or myself.
I didn’t have the energy to continue with the conversation, she had served me a low blow. And here I was thinking she was busy to notice what was happening. I could tell she was thinking I was asking if she was straight for personal reasons. Maybe she is right on this one.
Although she let go without pinning me down, I was out of it. She was smart enough to know she hit me hard this time. Finally, she told me to let ‘our baby girl’ be. It’s more like your baby girl Jay. I smirked mentally at that, I would protect her. She was my friend, our naive friend. As naive as she was, I was wondering who was gonna protect her from herself.
But still, I was curious. Maybe I should keep it to myself for now. I will sit back and watch all this unfold. I hope I will be able to shut my mouth and not spread my suspicions to Army. I wish I could talk about it with her though, or even talk to Mira, but I know I would be in trouble.
