Chapter 43As the name suggests Argelès-sur-Mer is a seaside town and it's very popular with tourists. During July and August, the population of ten thousand swells by ten times with many of the visitors staying in the numerous surrounding campsites. The old town of Argelès is about one kilometre inland and if you want the beach area you must make your way to Argelès Plage on the Côte Vermeille. It is a town of contrasts with the old town having narrow cobbled streets, and the seafront area having more modern developments. The beach is a seven kilometre stretch of fine golden sand.
