Chapter 50Wednesday comes and goes without incident, which is just the way I like it. No more worrying phone calls or idiots asking stupid questions. There are very few tourists left in town and the number of 'curists' visiting the spa is beginning to dwindle. Everything is gradually getting back to normal. Thursday is a typical autumn day, except that it's intensely hot. There's still not a trace of Raymond Dupree, and as the morning progresses, I start to feel edgy. I get a jag of fear every time the phone rings, in case it's Detective Gerard. It's apparent to me, that if someone doesn't wish to be found, it's quite easy for them to disappear. It goes some way to explaining why many people who run away never turn up, even with stringent searching. By lunchtime, I can stand the pressure
