Chapter 26When I ring the bell at the Dupree residence the door is immediately opened a small crack and Madame Dupree peers out. After identifying who's there she ushers me inside the house. I see she's already holding her handbag and as I enter she leaves and pulls the door shut behind her. The hallway is dark and the only light source is a small lamp on the hall table. The doors into the rooms of the apartment are open.
