What did the Elder tell them that they would just turn their back on me? What kind of lies did he whisper in their ears? What poison did his tongue wield?
“Oh, child. I’m so sorry that you had to experience the betrayal of the dark wolves. But that’s just who they are, that’s what they do.” Elder Ko placed his hand on my shoulder, his gesture seemingly kind and soothing. But I knew better. He did this to me. He made them leave and now, I was all alone again. Trapped with people that loathed me, that hated my guts, that despised the wolf in me while they pretended to belong to the same Spirit as me.
“Don’t weep.” He snapped his fingers and two men joined us at the empty ditch. “We’ve got a ritual to complete. That’s why we’re all here, isn’t it?”
