Isabella’s POV
It was a message from Aiden, and I could feel my heart skip a beat. “Hey, Isabella! Wanna hang out later?”
“What if I ruin everything?” tanong ko sa sarili ko.
“Isabella, are you okay?” tanong ni Aiden, mukhang nag-aalala sa akin. “You seem a bit off.”
“Just… thinking about school.”
“Aiden, about everything we talked about before… I appreciate your support. Pero parang… ang daming expectations, and sometimes, I don’t know if I can live up to them.”
“Isabella, you’re doing great. You’re already making progress,” he replied, his voice steady and comforting.
“Siguro, it’s just hard to see that,” sabi ko, my voice shaky. “Lately, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed, especially with school and my family.
Nag-isip siya saglit, and then he spoke again. “You know, it’s okay to not have everything figured out. Everyone goes through this phase.”
“Yeah, but I can’t help but think that I’m letting everyone down,” sabi ko, my heart racing.
Why did I say that? I thought. It felt like a part of me was bursting out, and I didn’t know if I was ready for the consequences.
Aiden, I’m sorry if I’m just rambling. It’s just…” umiling ako, trying to regain my composure. “Maybe I’m overthinking things.”
“Isabella,” sabi niya, with a serious look on his face. “It’s okay to express your feelings. I’m here for you, and I want to help you.”
“I know, but I’m just scared that I’ll mess everything up,” sabi ko, feeling the tears well up in my eyes. “What if I can’t meet your expectations either?”
Nakita kong nag-alala siya, and I could sense a shift in his demeanor. “Hey, that’s not what I want for you. I’m not expecting you to be perfect. I just want you to be you,” he said softly, trying to comfort me.
“Sometimes, I feel like you have it all figured out, Aiden,” sabi ko, my voice breaking. “And I’m just… here, struggling.”
“Isabella, I’m just as lost sometimes. I don’t have all the answers,” he replied, his tone earnest. “But that’s what friends are for—so we can help each other find our way.”
“But what if I can’t? What if I’m just dragging you down with me?” I snapped, unable to control my emotions. “I don’t want to ruin our friendship because of my issues!”
It felt like I was lashing out, and I didn’t know how to stop.
“Isabella, I’m not going anywhere,” he said firmly. “I’m here, whether you like it or not. Pero I need you to trust me and trust yourself.”
Napatingin ako sa kanya, and suddenly I felt exposed. The raw emotions I had kept hidden were now spilling out, and I didn’t know how to put them back. “I don’t want to drag you into my mess,” I whispered, feeling vulnerable.
“Isabella, that’s not how friendship works. You don’t have to carry everything alone,” he reassured me. “I’m here to share the load, not to judge.”
“I’m sorry, Aiden,” sabi ko, my voice trembling. “I just feel so lost.”
“Okay lang, Isabella. Just breathe,” he said, reaching out to hold my hand.
In that moment, I knew that our friendship was stronger than my fears.
“I promise to try harder,” sabi ko, determined to face my struggles. “With your help, maybe I can find my way back.”
“That’s all I ask,” Aiden replied, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me.
