Chapter 42

1624 Words

Chapter 42. Jasper’s POV Throughout the drive home, I didn’t speak a word to Clinton. That wasn’t to say I didn’t feel the silent chastisement he was giving off. Earlier in the day when I sanctioned the move to cut off Mart’s allowances, he objected for the same reason my mother gave. But I maintained my ground because I knew it was the best thing to do. The right thing to do. My mind was too sour to enjoy the ambience of the drive home and one time I thought we were being followed by a car I felt anxiety wash over me. Perhaps it was a side effect of the sea of pills I had to pop down my throat ever since waking up from coma. It always left me with these fits of rage and then moments of utter vulnerability. But in-between — and this was my favorite place to be— I was my old self again.
