Chapter 50. Keira’s POV. I fought within my heart for most of the week after my near encounter with Mrs. Hawthorne. The manager has called my phone a couple of times— presumably on Jasper’s instructions — but I’d ignored all of them. Even Jasper had begun suspecting things were a bit off. I’d tried to play it down and keep up appearances. But my father’s threat hung over my head like a black cloud, threatening to rain down a storm on me at any second. I looked at the clock sitting on the bedside cupboard. It was almost six pm. I had to act fast. Growing up, I’d known my father not to be a man who made empty threats.
