Awkward

Riley's P.O.V "Ms. Barcelona," the teacher calls out to Victoria. "Blood transfusion, Ma'am." Victoria answers nonchalantly. These are just simple questions to her, and she's not going to break a sweat with these. I scribble my notes whilst paying attention. The rest of my morning was uneventful. When lunch break came, I saw Scarlett waiting for me at the door, not yelling my name or not calling for me, just plain waiting for me. "What's with Scarlett? She seems solemn." Dawn asks, forcing her things inside her bag. She was in a hurry too, I just don't know why. I watch her as she forces her things inside the poor bag. "Are you sure you should be watching me when she's there waiting for you?" Victoria asks, already pushing me away from them. I roll my eyes and readjusted the sling of my bag on my shoulder. As usual, my classmates were staring at Scarlett. Like I said, she's a beauty and hella cool, if you know what I mean. Whispers came soon after that, but I'm already immune to those. I've heard petty rumors about us, like how I'm dominating Scarlett in private, or probably threatening her with her life so she would stay with me. I even heard that I was somewhat controlling her parents to make me Scarlett's best friend. They weren't all about me being bad though. They think that Scarlett kidn*pped my parents and asked for my presence to prevent her from killing them. They were all groundless rumors so it didn't get to me. Scarlett isn't the type to care too so I didn't pry into it much deeper. "You okay?" I ask Scarlett and she replied with a turn and started walking away. Her hair was swinging left and right as she walks. I keep up with her pace but not too much. I lag behind her while she walks to wherever she wants. I followed behind her, blindly. But then she stops walking. I abruptly made a halt to stop myself from colliding with her back. I was on my tiptoes, so that was close. "S-Scarlett?" "I heard you quit the Student Council?" I quit the Student Council? What does she mean? I don't seem to understand her question. Wasn't she the one that told the student council to relieve me of my duties? Wasn't that the case? "I, I did?" She turns around, her perfect brows meeting each other. She was confused with my answer as I am confused with her question. Her expression was genuine so I knew that it wasn't her doing that I was relieved of my duties. She inhales softly and deeply before calming her expression, like she knew what happened in all honestly. "We should visit home tonight." her tone made no room for negotiations. Which was okay to me, no worries about that. She seemed upset. Was that why she was so solemn? She thought I quit the Student Council? Why was she upset? I thought she wanted me all to herself and have no duties. Huh. Guess I was wrong. "You want to eat?" I wanted to divert her attention from her frustration. "I'm not hungry," she says and started walking. "But I'm hungry," she stops walking and turns to me. She licks my lips before walking past me. I caught a whiff of her perfume before I turned around and followed her to the cafeteria. "Still hungry?" she asks, amused by what she just did. We were still in school, in the hallways. What if someone saw us? I'm not worried about my reputation, if anything, I'm worried about hers. She has a face in school. I'm just your typical poor student, who knows the basics of everything but doesn't excel in anything in particular. She was glorious and she graces some with her presence. She's an icon in school while I'm just at the side. She has a fans club and she has a lot of admirers. The only reason why they can't reach her is because she's as cold as a stone when she's with another person that isn't me. She stands above the rest, including me. It wasn't offending in any way. Truth be told, I'm quite happy that she has a standing even though she isn't socially inclined. It makes me proud. Even though she's alone, she doesn't look lonely, that's why I don't push her into making other friends. She seems contented with her private space. She dislikes it when someone is five meters near her if the situation isn't calling for it. "Yes," We entered the cafeteria and I ordered bread. Even the bread here costs five dollars. This is a ripoff to students like me but they don't know that. The two of us took a seat at our usual seat and table. She stares at my bread and then at my body. "Is that why you're flat?" I roll my eyes and looked the other way. "Well, it isn't my fault if I'm a wall." she giggles that sounded like music. It rang and echoed in my ears. They were heavenly and it was a rare opportunity to pass. It made me remember what Scarlett was before. She used to be friendly too, when we were just children. She liked talking to others and she liked hanging out. Believe it or not, she used to be a cheerleader and she used to be quirky and bubbly. It all changed when she was in high school. That was when her parents made me study every possible thing. I wonder what happened. I had no idea and had no recollection of any drastic occurrence. Was I missing out on something? Apparently her giggle was loud enough that our neighboring tables heard and looked our way. Scarlett was too amused to notice the stares that she was getting. "You should really eat more if you want to grow." why would I want to grow? This is as comfortable as it gets. Plus, I like my breasts when I have s*x, because it resembles that of a man because of how flat I am. "Pssh, I'm okay thanks. I appreciate what little I have. And I'm proud of these," I buff out my chest which made her giggle even more. "I see nothing." I smiled and started eating my bread. "I'm okay with only just a bread." After we ate our lunch, we hung out at the back of the school and pretty much just enjoyed the warmth that the sun gave us. After that, we went back to our classes. Fortunately for us, we had self-study. My other classmates were gossiping and talking about nonsense while I approach Victoria and Dawn who were busy debating whether shampoo is more important than soap. I know, nonsense, right? "Why are you two weirdos arguing about the most unimportant things when you two claim to be our school's number 1 and 2." "She started it!" "She started it!" the both of them shouted at the same time. I facepalm. "For smart people, you're both idiots. Why not argue about something that makes sense?" the two of them look at each other before turning away with frowns on their faces. "I want to ask you guys something." The two of them sat down and listened to me intently. "What is it?" "So serious," "Do you guys remember something that happened when we were in high school?" "If it's something big, like when Victoria s**t her pants, I'd remember, but other than that, I don't." Victoria rolls her eyes. "I'm trying to be civil here." Dawn rolls her eyes and sighs. "Fine. I don't remember anything, sorry." "Good. Same here," I sighed. Then I really wasn't missing something. "Why do you ask?" "Well, you remember Scarlett being bubbly and active, right?" Victoria snaps her fingers and nods her head aggressively, agreeing with me. "I do! I do! I wonder what changed." "See? I tried remembering but I can't seem to find anything. Like it just happened almost immediately, you know, the change." "Don't get upset over it. We can't remember anything, so you don't have to beat yourself up for it." Dawn pats my back. "Maybe she got hit by puberty." Victoria gives me a tight-lipped smile. "I guess. I just hope that nothing bad happened." "If you had a girlfriend, I'm sure your girlfriend would be upset over the fact that you're friends with the Scarlett Bautista." I roll my eyes at what Victoria says. "Scarlett comes first before myself, and that includes with my girlfriend too." the both of them exchanged looks before exchanging smiles. "What with the smile?" the both of them shrugged and turned around, and ignored me. "Hey, what's the big deal?" But they ignored me still until the rest of the day. I got fed up with them ignoring me so I stopped too. At the end of the day, they slapped my back, at the same time. It stung so much that I yelped and dropped to the floor. "You better not find a girlfriend," the two of them laughed before walking away. "Have a nice day ahead, Scarlett!" "Bye, Scarlett." Scarlett nods and went to me and helped me up. "You okay?" she asks while I was still silently crying over the pain. "Ghud, ghuud," I say through gritted teeth. I swear I heard their slap. It was very loud even though I had a shirt on. We went back to her condo first before driving to her house. I didn't want to ask why we were going her home and I didn't want to ask if her parents knew if we were going because she had another solemn expression on her face. I can't read her expression. Was she upset? I can't observe and stare at her for too long since I was driving. It was silent but it was okay since her home was near. The both of us got out of the car and she stormed inside without waiting for me. Guess she didn't want me to hear or know what's going to happen. Oh, well, guess I'll go and help Mom and Dad. I know Dad is in the garden, tending to it gently while Mom is cleaning the garage. I know their schedules since I've memorized it long ago. I went to where Dad was first. "Let me help you there, Sir." he turns around and wasn't expecting me. His thin lips curved upwards and hugged me tight. "When did you come?" his low voice felt nostalgic even though we saw each other just a few days ago. "Just right now. Scarlett wanted to do something. She found out I was relieved from the Student Council." "Oh, did she say anything else?" I shake my head and put on a pair of gloves to help him with the fertilization process. "Nothing. I was too afraid to ask. She had a scowl on her face on our way here." Dad hums in response and we continued working until we were both done. I look up the window and surprise surprise, saw Scarlett talking with her father. They were in a serious conversation and it seems that Scarlett's father looked guilty. He kept his head low. I wonder what they're talking about. "I'm gonna go and help Mom." "Alright. She's in the-" "-garage, I know," he huffs a chuckle and shoos me away. I went to the garage and surprised mom with a back hug. She squeals at first but when she saw that it was me, she rested the side of her head on mine and smiles. "Why are you here?" she asks. "Scarlett wanted to talk to her parents. I saw them arguing?" I break our hug and let mom continue working. "That's normal for them." "What do you mean?" "Scarlett wants to be in control with her life. She wants herself to live for herself." it wasn't making any sense to me. "Why would she want that? She's still young." "Shh, quiet, I'm working." She dismissed the conversation abruptly. Then Scarlett came storming in here, making me and mom look at her. "I'm going to make Riley help me with my needs, Mrs. Jones."
