Chapter 2

Jaxon's POV

"What the heck do you mean he managed to escape Garrett!? How does a weak rouge with a wounded leg get away from one of my best warriors?" I snapped at the man in front of me.

My patience was running thin by the second and Theo my wolf was clawing to get out. My pack was the largest pack in North America with approximately 2000 members. We rarely had problems with other packs or rogues they all stayed out of our way. And if a rogue was a problem, it was taken care of in a matter of seconds.

It's only recently that we've been having problems with these rogues. They've been attacking my men and women on patrol for about 2 weeks now and each time they were caught and killed on the spot. So now listening to my commander in chief telling me that the rogue was able to get away from him really does not sit well with me.

"I apologise Alpha but my mate had mind linked me saying that she was going into labor and I got distracted for a second, I promise you it will not happen again."

At the mention of his mate Lisa going to labor, some of my anger evaporated. I might be a strict Alpha but I cared deeply for my pack members. If his mate was in labor then I won't be the kind of guy that stops him from going to his family.

"That's understandable Garrett, go to your mate she must need you right now, and say congratulations to Lisa for me." Relief flashed on his face as he nodded at me and rushed out of the room to his mate.

Theo had calmed down quite fast after the words mate were mentioned. I was to find my mate six years ago when I turned 18 but luck was not on my side. Theo has been devastated since and every time he sees mates together he simply shuts down. "You say that like you're any different" Theo grumbles at me.

Ignoring him, I slumped back on my chair the exhaustion of the day finally catching up to me. I didn't want to sleep but with the rogues problem and the paperwork piled up on my desk I just couldn't not. Not even a minute had passed when I closed my eyes before the door to my office burst open.

Groaning I opened my eyes to find a frantic looking Hunter on my doorstep. "Just because you're my best friend and Beta doesn't mean you can barge in here when I'm trying to get some sleep dammit!" I scolded him. But being the foolish guy he is, just shrugged and said, "well who told you to sleep here... Plus I have more urgent news I'm sure your nap can wait."

If it were anyone else talking to me in that manner, he'd already be dead but we've known each other since birth and I consider him my brother.

"Okay what do you want? And make it fast cause Theo's been getting anxious and I want to rest before he blows my head off." I told him rubbing my temple sleep trying to make it's way to my eyes.

"Well someone just crossed the border"

I immediately snapped my head towards him making sure I heard him correctly.

"Well don't look at me like that it's true, the patrol guards are making they're way there to see who it was."

"Is the intruder a rogue?" Was the only thing I said which led Theo to growl loudly at me in my head. I furrowed my eyebrows wondering what was wrong with him.

"No they're not but they don't have a pack's scent on them so I can't figure out which territory they come from."

"Well that's weird if they're not a rogue then they should obviously have a scent. Let's go check it out, I don't want some unknown stranger in my land longer than necessary." I told him standing up. Well there goes my sleep.

We had shifted into our wolf form to reach the boarder faster and changed into the spare clothes that we had carried. By now Theo was pacing around in my head and wouldn't even talk to me. I was starting to get worried because he has never been like this.

"Theo what's wrong you're getting me worked up?" Before he even got the chance of answering me, a strong scent of vanilla and coconut hit me like a wave and I froze in my spot

Theo must have smelt it too cause he immediately howled in my head. I didn't want to raise my hopes up but I couldn't stop myself when my own feet started running to the direction of the beautiful scent.

Hunter must have been confused by my actions because he immediately followed me trying to catch up with me. I was grateful he didn't ask any questions since I wasn't in any position to answer them right now.

As I reached the boarder, the scent was stronger now but there was no one there with that particular scent. I looked around some of my pack members trying to figure out where that scent was coming from but nothing.

Surely of it was one of my pack members I would already have found out who it was.

I looked back at Hunter confusion etched on my face, "I thought you said someone breached our border?" I asked with such a low but commanding alpha voice that he had no other option but to till his head in submission.

" Alpha I assure you that someone did cross the border, the patrol members that were near felt it. "

" Then where the hell is she... "

"Alpha we don't know if it's a she wolf or not because no one saw what the person looked like, we just felt them and by the time we got here the person had gone, it's like they vanished to thin air."

"You mean to tell me someone got in my territory and left without you detecting it?!" I snapped at the patrol guards in front of me. Before I could even continue, Hunter stopped me and said, " I know your my alpha and all but why are you so worked up over this? We know it wasn't a rogue and as far as the safety of the pack members is concerned, the intruder didn't harm anyone or steal anything. Personally I think that he or she might have stumbled here unintentionally and decided to leave before they get caught."

" She can't leave..." I whispered sadly.

"What do you mean she can't leave? How do you know it's a girl and why can't she leave?" Hunter asked sensing my change in moods.

Before I could even answer his question, he dismissed the rest of the patrol guards so we could talk in private. I'll never admit this but I'm grateful to have him as a friend.

"Soooo you gonna tell me who this mystery girl is to you, or should I just make a guess that it's my Luna." He asked with a knowing look on his face.

" I noticed her scent when we reached the border plus Theo's been restless for the past couple of hours... I can't loose her when I just found her, heck I don't even know what she looks like."

" I'll tell some of our best trackers to track her down for you , you deserve your mate after waiting this long for her... Plus I'm sure the pack would love to meet their Luna"

I couldn't be more grateful to have Hunter as my best friend and Beta.

I decided to edit a few parts on chapter 2 also since I had finished it early.
