Raine's POV
I snuggled my head deeper to the soft silk pillow enjoying its warmth refusing to let my eyes open and face the harsh reality.
Mmmhh and my sheets are extra soft today...
Soft.
Silk.
Warmth.
These are definitely not mine. I jolted awake and stood at the foot of the bed frantically looking around the unfamiliar room trying to decipher where the hell I was.
Then everything came crashing back to me of what had happened and my heart sank.
As I looked around I realised I was alone in the room and from the looks of it it looked like no one stayed here because I did not see any personal items or clothes belonging to anyone.
The knob of the door jingled and I jumped back on the bed covering myself in the process and pretended to be asleep.
"When do you think she'll wake up?" A voice asked from afar.
There was shuffling of feet then a moment later a cold hand was placed on my forehead. "By the looks of it she should be getting up anytime from now considering all her wounds have already healed and the gush on her forehead that she had when she hit the ground has disappeared completely."
Wait, are they the ones who found me?
Or kidn*pped me? ... no no no if I was kidn*pped I would not have been put on this amazing bed with oh so soft pillows.
Focus. I scolded myself.
"I still don't understand how that's possible... I know that we're supposed to heal quickly because of our nature but with hers its much more faster than I've ever seen..." another voice trailed.
At this my eyes jolted awake only to quickly shut cause of the blinding light coming my way. How I didn't notice the scorching sun coming through the open window before was beyond me.
"Hey she's awake... close the curtains"
Opening my eyes slowly this time, I looked around and was met by two pairs of eyes staring at me wide eyed with their mouths hanging open.
I must have missed something
Maybe I have something on my face. I touch my face slowly trying to find anything but there was nothing.
I shifted under their gaze starting to get uncomfortable and they must have snapped out of it cause one of them cleared their throat and looked anywhere but me.
" Sorry about that... your eyes are just pretty." One of them said.
"Thank the goddess i thought they were stuck like that" some silly voice said in my head.
"Hey! I'm not silly you raccoon head."
Technically I'm a werewolf...
"Would you like something to drink maybe water or tea?" One of the guys wearing a white coat who I'm guessing must be the doctor asked interrupting my inner argument with my wolf and that's when I realised I had zoned them out.
How rude of me.
"You finally noticed" Sage snickered from the back of my head.
Deciding to ignore her i looked at the men infront of me and decided i had ignored them both for long enough.
"Yes please that would be nice" I said instantly regretting my decision because I didn't know if I could trust them yet.
"But if they wanted to harm us don't you think we wouldn't have woken up" Sage talked sense for the first time since we woke up.
Deciding that I've been over thinking this situation for long enough, I asked for a glass of water.
"Oh! How terribly rude of us... I'm Tasis and this is Alpha Fazi." The doctor said as he left to go get me water.
"Well?..." Fazi asked and with the authority he used I'm guessing he had to be an alpha. I can't blame him... I'd be like that too if some stranger was in my pack.
Yet I still decided to play dumb.
"Well what?"
"What's your name? I mean we told you ours so its fair we get to know yours"
"Technically Tasis did but anyway I'm Raine." Though I didn't get or feel any kind of bad vibes from them I still didn't trust them enough to tell them my full name.
With what I've seen and been through I couldn't afford to fully trust anyone. Ever
Lost in my own thoughts I didn't hear the door open or footsteps approaching until as glass of water was placed in my line of sight.
Looking up I muttered an apology for zoning out for the umpteenth time since I woke up and took the glass drank it at one go... I must have been too distracted to realise how really thirsty I was.
"So..." Alpha Fazi started "... if you don't mind could you tell us what happened to you because when we found you you looked like you were a minute away from dying."
"Wait how did you find me first?"
"Alpha Fazi and I were coming from a nearby pack when we saw you standing in the middle of the forest almost confused then a second later you collapsed."
"When we got to you it was when we realised that you were in another packs territory but we weren't sure if it was your pack or not cause you had no scent on you."
"We took you just incase it was the latter and brought you here."
"Speaking of, we have a few questions that we were curious about." Alpha Fazi stated.
"We're not trying to pry or anything but we just want to know if there is any thing we could do to help you." Tasis added.
I froze in my spot and so did Sage... they couldn't know, no one could... I'd be putting them in harm's way and they've been nothing but kind to me. I felt my eyes sting, my tears threatening to betray me. I couldn't let anyone else die because of me.
"It's not your fault" Sage gently whispered in my head trying to comfort me.
"You've helped me enough as it is... Thank you but I have to get going. I shouldn't be here. " I said getting up because I'd be damned if another pack is wiped off existence because of me.
"You don't have to leave. My pack members wouldn't mind as long as you are no threat to them. You can even join the pack if you have no where to go."
I looked at him surprised at his offer. Usually most packs are very weary at letting other people into their territories and here he was offering me a place in his pack.
He must have understood the look on my face because he quickly added, "we are the Starlight Pack... we take lost wolves, banished wolves who are willing to change and offer them a second chance at a family.
Oh yeah I've heard of them... but that was not going to change the fact that i am a ticking bomb to these people cause the longer I stay the faster they'll find me.
"It's very generous of you and your pack but I really have somewhere I need to be right now. " I lied through my teeth and gave them an awkward smile.
I could tell they didn't believe me but decided not to push.
"I'll walk you out to the pack border." Alpha Fazi said.
I bid Tasis a goodbye and moved to the door where Alpha Fazi was waiting.
"But just so you know our door is always open whenever you need some help." He told me as he walked me through the pack fields to the border curious glances coming our way or should I say my way.
"Don't mind them they're just curious of you." He must have also noticed.
"Thank you so much for everything Alpha Fazi I'll always remember this." I have him an awkward pat at the back and walked away.
