New rivals

Kate sits in the corner of the last sit in auditorium, where the class was having a teamwork session. It has already passed a week since her last talk with the professor. And today, they had programmed another one at Rose Café, her favourite. She doesn't have to work on Friday nights. And as she watches people walk up the stage and start their presentations, she wonders what's going to be on this time. Kate is pretty sure it won't end with the same thing from last time, but it could still happen... The door opens and in walks the man I am going to get married. Why is he always where I am?! "I would need Miss Kate." Everyone stares at her confused and curious. Kate approaches embarrassed the man, and they leave the auditorium. They go into an elevator together, and then he presses the button for the floor. It's quiet in the elevator. Kate wants to break the silence, so that she can continue to tease him. He looks at her, and they smile at each other. But then the doors open and he walks out first. They are in the dungeons, they arrive at Professor Zhang's car, and after entering, they speed away, towards the Rose Café. The ride there was long silent, but when they arrived, it seemed like everyone else was waiting for them there. Professor Zhang goes up to them and greets them warmly. But once he sees her, he turns back to them. "Miss Kate, would you like a coffee or a drink?" "Coffee please." Kate replies immediately. Her voice sounds different than usual today. She knows that Professor Zhang has noticed, because his lips twitch a little. Kate smirks as they start walking over to an empty table. She puts her backpack down by the chair next to the table. The table has some snacks, and a cup of tea. "I brought the papers for our wedding. " Professor Zhang says handing them to Kate. The professor notices Kate's change of mood. Kate can feel her heart racing, as she feels butterflies in her stomach. This isn't right... Why am I acting like a teenager! She thinks, trying not to blush. The two sit opposite each other. Kate takes the papers from the professor, while he watches her. There are no words said between them. After reading the papers she signs them. "Now, we are officially married, we just need to tell everyone, but not at school" he says standing up. Kate nods and stands up. They head back to school, to the auditorium, where everyone still waited. Kate can see many people pointing at her, whispering something. When they enter, the whole room goes silent. Everyone turns to look at her, and she smiles. Return to her usual sitting place. Professor Zhang clears his throat, and everyone snaps back to attention. Professor Zhang takes a deep breath, and starts the lesson. As soon as he finishes, Kate turns to look at Professor Zhang, and he seems surprised too. She smirks and looks back at the professor. After the lecture, Kate is standing with all the other students, waiting to leave. The other girls come up to her. "I saw how you were looking at Doctor Zhang!" One says angrily. Kate raises an eyebrow. Is it obvious? Kate wonders. Maybe my eyes do give it away. She keeps staring at him, hoping he will notice, but he seems completely oblivious. "So? How is that any of your business?" Kate responds coldly. She doesn't want anyone talking about it behind her back. She has enough of that at home. One of the girls rolls her eyes and laughs histerically. "Don't even think about it, he is ours." It hurts Kate's feelings, and suddenly she has the urge to punch her in the face. She looks down, trying to hold herself together. The girl continues talking about how they are going to make sure no one ever tries to steal Professor Zhang from them. Kate sighs, before taking her things from the girl. She makes her way outside with her stuff. Once she gets out of the building, the sky is filled with clouds. It's raining, and the wind is picking up. She quickly grabs the umbrella, and holds it over her head. She is almost home, when suddenly someone bumps into her. She turns around and sees Professor Zhang. "Oh, sorry," he says, looking at her intently. He smiles slightly. Kate can tell he is holding back laughter. She raises an eyebrow and asks if everything is okay. She really needs to get inside now. He nods. "Goodbye, Miss Kate," he finally says as he walks away. Kate stares at him for a second, feeling weird. When she comes back to her senses, she looks in front of her again. She shakes her head, and starts walking home. After finishing her dinner, Kate returns to her room. She lies on her bed, thinking about everything that happened today. Suddenly, her phone buzzes in her pocket. She fishes it out and checks it. (10:03 PM) From: Doctor Zhang Hey, are you free tomorrow? Yes? Tomorrow morning is Saturday. If you're free, come to my apartment. We can have a talk about the marriage, and your studies. Okay. What's with me today? Why am I being so flirty with him? Kate sighs. She decides to go to sleep. Tomorrow is the day. *** The next morning Kate wakes up at 9:02 AM, and takes a shower. Then she dresses and heads downstairs. She eats breakfast and then leaves the house. She drives to the office, and parks a few blocks away. Doctor Zhang picks her up in his car and drives off to the university. "How does it feel to be a teacher?" Kate asks him. Doctor Zhang smiles brightly. "It's wonderful. I love teaching."
