Prologue
“Please do not leave me. Not like this.” My soulmate is dying, by my hands, there is nothing I can do to save him. “What am I to do without you?”
Marius tries to speak, but only blood gurgles from his mouth. His face is barely recognizable underneath all the blood. His eyes are the most identifiable. Their sapphire color shine brighter than ever.
“My Blue Stone.” I whisper to him, tears from my eyes leave clean streaks on his bloody cheeks. His body trembles in my arms. He always loved when I called him Blue Stone. Minutes pass and I continue to rock him. I cannot think of anything else to say.
“I-it hurts.” He says in a clear voice. I look into his eyes. They are staring at me with perfect clarity. He knows today will be his last.
I clutch him closer and caress the side of his face. “I know it does, Marius. I can feel it. I do not know how to beg forgiveness for this crime. I am the reason you are here like this. I did this to you. The pain of knowing I did this and cannot undo it is killing me.” He blinks at my words and slowly closes his eyes. My hands move to rest over his heart, his heartbeat is slowly decreasing. “You are leaving me.”
“I haven’t gone yet.” He says. We simply look at each other. I am memorizing his face and I know he is doing the same to mine. Words have never been copious among us. “I love you,” he states.
“You should not have.” I look around at the burning village. “You are lying broken in my arms and the village is burning. Everything we have ever known, everyone we have ever loved, they will be forever gone. This is the price of my love.” I look around me, there is nothing. All is quiet. We are the only ones left.
“You are worth it,” he simply says. My heart breaks even more with his words.
Minutes, perhaps hours, pass. His body shakes with spasms and I know the end is drawing near. I hold him tighter and press his head to my heart. “I love you, I love, I love. I never said it enough, but I do. I love you.” The spasms increase in intensity. I once again place my hand over his heart. This time, I try to channel my life force into his body but this is not something I’ve fully learned. “Please work. P-please work.”
Marius grabs my hand and whispers, “I love you, my Sun.” His body stills as his hand lifelessly falls from mine. His beautiful eyes are empty and I know he has left me.
“Marius…please. I cannot live without you. Not for an eternity. Please, please. Come back, I need you!” I draw him closer to me and slowly rock back and forth. “I am sorry. Please return to me.” His head is wet from my tears. I neither know nor care how much time has passed. “How am I to continue without you, my Blue Stone?”
I feel Marius’ s body grow warm, this causes me to open my arms. His body is glowing with a bright, blue color. Despite my efforts to hold on to him, his body is slowly lifted from my arms. I stand as his body is lifted higher and higher. Right as I reach for him, there is a big flash of light and I am forced to shield my eyes from it. When I open my eyes all that is left of him are sparks of light that slowly die in the night. I am left alone.
