“Now that you know, I’ll leave you to whatever brought you here.” Robert picked up Jason’s letter, putting it in his pocket. “I’ll take this back to Beth and then…I guess I’ll see you the next time you decide to eat at the diner. It does seem to be my regular hangout when I’m not working.” He stood and walked swiftly out of the bar.
“I wish…” I let go of Alan’s hand to stare out the window. I think for a moment at least I was hoping to see Jason come dashing across the street to join us the way he often did. It didn’t happen, of course, and now it never would. “I’ll miss him.”
“We all will,” Alan said, giving me a hug. “I hope he finds what he’s looking for.”
