I nodded. “I can vouch for the fact she wasn’t happy about it from her reaction to Norma’s name when I stopped by to visit. However, the sense I got was she was upset with her husband, not Norma. Probably because he’d been too weak to, as he put it, avoid falling under her spell.”
“That’s doesn’t mean she didn’t harbor a grudge against Norma. But what would have set her off a month later to make her want to kill her?”
“Exactly. If it had happened when she found out, it would have been one thing, but this much later…?” I shrugged.
“Caldwell’s out of the picture given the timeframe if nothing else. As you said, she might have picked him up Friday night, or vice versa, which explains his fingerprints being at her house, but he’s alibied by the people at the motel for Saturday night.”
