Kerina
Gunshots ring out around me and I try not to panic. I stay low and crawl through the chaos.
‘Grab her,’ yells the Governess. ‘She can’t get away.’
Shots continue to fire. I have no weapon and no idea who’s shooting. Ryen wouldn’t have planned this attack. He would have had something else arranged. My mother can’t have known about it either. She was just as surprised as I when the lights were smashed out. What the hell is going on? Did Lace and Raider double-cross us?
I scramble my way along the edge of the building in the darkness. This might be my only chance of escape.
‘Kerina!’ yells the Governess. ‘Don’t you leave me!’
I ignore my mother’s voice and continue in the opposite direction.
‘Kerina!’
A thud hits me and I slam into a building. Broken glass slices my skin.
