Chapter 1
As the clock struck midnight, I penned the final words of my will, ready to find it a secret resting place.
My phone's shrill ring interrupted the silence.
It was Letitia.
With her voice slurred with alcohol, she barked, "Harold, where are you? It's been ages! Didn't I tell you to pick me up?"
Lost in my thoughts, I'd missed her text. After all, I was engrossed in drafting my life's final testament.
"On my way," I replied, and the line went dead as if I were a mere servant at her beck and call.
My body was growing stiff with each passing day, and now it extended to my fingers, a cruel reminder of my advancing illness.
The doctor's grim prognosis loomed over me, counting down the days until my time would run out.
Still, I managed to arrive at the location where Letitia was.
Stepping out of the car, I saw a young man with his arm possessively around Letitia's waist exuding a sense of dominance.
Letitia, in her drunken state, leaned into him affectionately, her hands fumbling on his chest.
I recognized him—Herbert Felton, the new gigolo of Letitia's affection.
With an umbrella in hand, I approached them.
Herbert's gaze met mine, but he didn't release Letitia.
His eyes held a mix of disdain and a triumphant smirk.
The onlookers, friends of Letitia, called out to remind Herbert, "Mrs. Oscar's old flame has arrived! Don't you hurry and let her go?"
"And this is her lawful husband, Harold Oscar," they added, prompting Herbert's interest to peak.
He hugged Letitia tighter as if to stake his claim.
"What's the fuss about an old flame? He's just a relic of the past," he sneered.
A friend tugged at Herbert's arm, whispering about my history with Letitia, "He's different. When Mrs. Oscar returned from abroad with achievements, the first thing she did was to seek reconciliation with him, her old lover. Even if his glory had passed, she still insisted on marrying him."
Herbert's arrogance waned, but soon, it was replaced by a grudging admission, "If she truly cared about him, how could I, the newcomer, be in the lead?"
