Untitled Episode
At 11 p.m., Jordan is watching TV while picking his teeth, but a torrential downpour crashes over the tin roof. He looks outside, the street lights are isolated by raindrops in total darkness, which float on a small patch of land. Raindrops splash on the stairs. He intends to go home after the rain has stopped, as he finds it boring to quarrel with his wife at home. After making up his mind, he turns to watch TV. While he is concentrating his attention on the TV, someone calls him suddenly. "Excuse me," "OMG", he is intimated by the voice. "What do you want?" He stares at the woman, who is a little bit like a ghost, with black tear strains under her swollen eyes. "I want to buy a lottery ticket" she replies in a lower voice. "Which number do you want?" He carefully peeks at her while doubting if she is a ghost. "Whatever." She takes out one hundred dollars from her dripping wallet. Jordan wants to give himself some compensation for being intimidated by her just now, so he makes a random bet and raises the bet fiftyfold. He hands the woman the lottery ticket. "Okay, thanks." She says in very low spirits. While she was waiting for her change, Jordan's eyes widened, "I thought you bought them all. Jordan feels a little bit guilty, so he takes out a broken umbrella from the corner as compensation for her. "I'm sorry, ma'am. You can have this umbrella. You don't have to return it." She takes the umbrella and eventually leaves the store without saying anything. Jordan lets out a sigh of relief, and his body sways a few times in triumph. The broken umbrella can not be used, he knows that it is easy to negotiate a settlement with her. He is not afraid of a fragile woman. The next day, at eight thirty in the evening, he and some ticket friends in front of the screen waiting for the winning numbers of the lottery. First ball, 02. Second ball, 08 Third ball, 16. That number seems familiar’, Jordan wonders. Fourth ball, 32. Fifth ball, 20. "Holy s**t, this number seems a bit familiar!" he yells. "Are you sure? Let’s check the last ball." Lottery ticket holders around him has won two numbers at most, so they wave their hands at him impatiently. Sixth ball, 18. Seventh ball, 33 "Holy s**t, wait, I really remember this ticket!" He slaps the table. The winning numbers are read out, and then the host seems stunned. "There is a jackpot for this period, an additional fifty times the prize ...... billion." Additional fifty times? Additional fifty times? Jordan remembers that this lottery ticket was bought by the wired woman last night, and it was the one that he randomly added fifty times! "I, I grass ......" Before finishing the sentence, Jordan collapses on the ground. The people around him scrambled to help him up, pinching the middle of his upper lip to wake him up. "Jordan, wake up, wake up!" "Call 911, call 911!" People shouted anxiously. Finally, he came to his senses. "This ticket is from my store!" He slumps weakly on the long leather chair by the wall. "What ticket?" people around him all suck in a breath of cold air. "The one billion dollar ticket, it's from me, it's from my store. I am going to be rich." The light in his eyes flutters and he seems to be about to faint over again. His wife immediately realizes what kind of ticket it is, and immediately rushes to the computer to check yesterday's running numbers. And her fingers went limp. It is really sold from their store. It was probably the biggest prize ever won in the country, one billion dollars. As the lottery store that issues this ticket, they are going to be rich! The ticket holders would definitely come in like a tidal wave! Early the next morning, it was only seven thirty when April arrived at the management office. She takes out the egg dunked pancake from her pocket. The office is small, but she is alone in her space. She was there for three years before she became a supervisor and got her own little office. The phone call comes in just as she takes a bite of the pie. The bite of pie felt like choking in her chest and she couldn't get it down. She takes her work cell phone out and takes a deep breath, a hard smile showing on her mouth. "Hello." "Is it the property?" "Yes." "What the hell is wrong with your work? How come my car can't get out again, what's wrong with your system? What's wrong with your system? It's wrong every three days. Why do you ask us to pay the property fee for this kind of service? I'm asking you, why?" April took out a pen and paper from the table, "Please tell us your license plate number. Which building do you live in?" The man curses and says his license plate number. "Wait a moment, I'll check." She comforts softly. April launches the system and inputs the number, and finds that there is no such car under this family's name. "I’m sorry, but this car is not registered yet." "I did last week!" "Then have you rented a parking space?" "Your parking space here is expensive as hell. Why should I rent it? Get the security guard to come over and open the door for me! Or I'll crash out!" "As you have not rented a parking space, we can’t do it." "Don't talk so much, you'll pay me if I'm late? My salary for a day is more than yours for one month. Hurry up and let the security guard come over and open the door, or I'll crash out." April hangs up the phone. Her mood gets worse and worse while she is eating the pie, like chewing wax. She throws it into the trash can. The phone rings again, still from the same person. She ignores it and takes her own cup to get a glass of water. Standing next to the water fountain, she drinks it before returning. The phone is still ringing. She picks it up and presses the speakerphone. "Hurry up and open the door for me, I really crash! You force me to!" "Sir, the price of our garage door is more than six thousand. If you crash it, we are system-wide and the police side of the network will have evidence to prove that you are intentionally destroying public property, violating the rights and interests of all the owners. If you park illegally in the first place, and crash our door, according to the "Public Security Regulations" , you will be sentenced to seven to fifteen days of detention." April hangs up the phone. A mouthful of bad breath came out of her heart. When the man calls again, she just hangs up. The regulations and detention are all made up by her. She knows how silly the man on the other side of the phone is. He is just a coward, afraid of the police . She bets the man is not finely educated, so she just makes up some words to bluff him. When she joined the company for the first year, she would have been overwhelmed by such a call, and would have cried uncontrollably after being scolded, but now she won't at all. They are just bullshit! The security team duty officer phone call comes through as well. "April, someone wants me to go open the garage door for him." "Just tell him that you don't have the authority to open the garage door." "He says he wants to file a complaint against me." "I'll talk to your supervisor." "Okay." The man is not let out today. At seven forty-five, coworkers and the director came in one after another. The director came in hurriedly. "April, come with me to headquarters for a meeting." "Okay Director." April brought her notebook and pen up. The director sat behind April's small electric vehicle and the two of them moved together towards the head office one kilometer away. "Director, I remember that we do not have a meeting today." "I also just heard the notice. Someone is coming to inspect our work today. We're having an emergency meeting." "Okay." They arrived at the headquarters at seven fifty, and the directors and supervisors of the other districts were also there. What their old boss hated the most was when people were late for meetings, so everyone rushed in. One of the interns from the administration department came out and counted the heads. "Are the directors and supervisors of the six districts here yet?" She asked. No one responded and everyone looked around, not seeing anyone from District Six. "Alright, let's go to the big meeting first, Mr. Ma will be here soon." Everyone rushed towards the large conference room. Sure enough, it was for the matter of the group sending people for a clinical inspection, Mr. Ma said a bit about the importance of this clinical inspection, and then focused on the inspection items. It took a few minutes for the people from the sixth district to arrive, and both of them were out of breath. When they were standing at the door, Mr. Ma completely ignored them. So they had to take out a pen and paper and stand at the door to take notes. Waiting for the meeting to wrap up, Mr. Ma put these two people in front of everyone's face split is a scolding, and then the director was deducted a thousand, the supervisor was deducted five hundred. The suffocating meeting finally ended at twelve o'clock, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief and walked toward the cafeteria with their books clipped. The atmosphere instantly came alive. The two men walking in front of April and her director were the director supervisors of the first district. "Someone in our district bought a billion-dollar lottery ticket yesterday." "Really?" The director of District 1 didn't believe it. "Really, I often go there to buy tickets. Yesterday, the owner found out that their store had sold such a big ticket and directly fainted and was sent to the hospital." The District 1 director laughed "Why did he faint?" District 1 director said "Hey, you'll know if you go over there this afternoon and take a look." The director of District 1 said, "The winner should be dizzy instead of the store owner, so I guess it has something to do with the people at the ticket office. I've never heard of anyone winning so much money." The District 1 director said, "That's unknown, but I also think it's possible. Who buys a ticket and adds fifty times? Fifty times is a hundred dollars, who would buy a ticket like that if they weren't sure it was a winner." An additional fifty times? What do you mean? She saw her ticket with the +50 number on it. It couldn't be. She pulled her cell phone out and searched for last night's lottery numbers. 02 08 16 32 20 18-33 ???? This was similar to the numbers on her ticket. No such coincidence, right? Where was the ticket? Shit, it was in her bag. It was in the office!
