Chapter 1: One-Night-Stand After Betrayal
Chapter 1: One-Night-Stand After Betrayal (Elina's POV) I froze in the Moon Valley Resort lobby, rooted to the plush red carpet beneath my feet. My twenty-fifth birthday—a day I had eagerly awaited—was collapsing into a nightmare in front of my eyes. There, not twenty steps away in the corner where soft golden lights cast a warm glow, Caleb, my mate, the man who was supposed to be my forever, was locked in an intimate embrace with another she-wolf. His lips moved passionately against hers, claiming. His hands gripped her waist, pulling her tightly against him like she belonged there. My wolf, Tina, whimpered and then howled in anguish within me, the sound clawing through my chest. The pain wasn’t just emotional. It manifested physically, sharp and cutting, as if someone had driven a dagger deep into my heart and twisted it for good measure. “No.” The word left my mouth, barely audible. It wasn't a denial as much as it was a broken plea. All I could do was stand there, frozen, while the very idea of what I thought my life would be shattered around me. Caleb wasn’t just anyone. He was mine. My destined mate. The bond between us was supposed to be unbreakable, eternal, blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. Yet now, in this moment, I could feel it unraveling, crumbling like fragile glass. Each thread of the bond snapping sent searing pain through my head, through my chest, through the very core of my being. I stumbled a step back, my body instinctively recoiling from the unbearable scene. Caleb hadn’t noticed me, too consumed by the passion he shared with the she-wolf. My mind screamed at me to do something—pull them apart, scream, shout—but my body didn’t obey. Minutes or hours might have passed, I didn’t know. Time was meaningless as I turned on my heel and somehow navigated the elegant hallways back to my hotel room. Each step felt heavier than the last, my chest tightening with every breath. I threw the door shut behind me, leaning back against it as hot, angry tears spilled down my cheeks. Tina was still howling softly inside me, her emotions a storm of anguish, anger, and betrayal. Caleb and I had been together for two years. Two years of trust, shared dreams, and a bond that was supposed to be sacred. All of it had been for nothing. He had thrown it away. I wiped the tears away roughly, my grief morphing into something darker. Rage burned bright in its wake, igniting my blood and drowning out my shock. “Fine,” I hissed under my breath. If Caleb wanted to rip my heart out, then I would make damn sure he knew what that felt like. My shaking hands grabbed my phone, barely able to type out the numbers: 5306. My hotel room. The message was short. Cold. Final. But I didn’t send it to Caleb. I sent it to Rhysand, our Alpha King. The second I hit send, my heart pounded violently against my ribs. Was I insane? Rhysand wasn’t just our Alpha; he was the Alpha King. Commanding. Untouchable. The most powerful werewolf in the region. What I was doing was reckless. Dangerous. But I didn’t care. If tonight was going to burn, I was going to be the one controlling the flames. I ripped off the pale blue dress I’d worn earlier, letting it drop to the floor in a heap. From my suitcase, I pulled out the red dress I’d purchased a month ago, meant to be worn tonight—a special night for me and Caleb. I slipped it on. It clung perfectly, hugging every curve, and the deep crimson color shimmered under the dim golden light of the hotel room. Tina grumbled uneasily in the back of my mind, her pain from the betrayal still sharp and raw. But even amidst the heartbreak, I could feel her… rising. Anticipating. Minutes stretched into eternity as I waited, anxiety bubbling in my chest. The knock came all too suddenly. I froze in place, staring at the door like it was a portal to another dimension. My breath hitched as I walked toward it, heart thundering. Slowly, I opened it—and there he was. Rhysand. He filled the doorway, towering and imposing with his broad shoulders and commanding stance. His emerald green eyes pinned me in place immediately, dark and unreadable as they traveled over me. My breath caught at how different he seemed now than he did at pack meetings or formal events. Tonight, in this moment, there was no mask of composure. Just raw, intimidating power. The door hadn’t even clicked closed behind him before he surged toward me, claiming my lips in a kiss so fierce and dominant it left no room for hesitation. It was nothing like Caleb’s kisses had been—gentle, practiced. Rhysand’s kiss consumed me entirely. His lips were demanding, and it was all I could do to keep up. His hands gripped my waist, pulling me into him, and all I could feel was his overwhelming presence. His scent—pine needles laced with frost—wrapped around me, dizzying and undeniably Alpha. Tina responded instantly, a surge of heat and need crashing through me. He backed me up until my body pressed against the mirrored wall, the cold surface a sharp contrast to his heat. (Third person’s POV) Unbeknownst to Elina, Caleb approached the hallway, his steps measured but furious. Even before he turned the corner, his sharp werewolf senses picked up on two mingling scents—Elina’s and Rhysand’s. His jaw tightened. His fists clenched at his sides as his wolf stirred uneasily within him. The scene that greeted him confirmed his worst fears. In the faint shadows of the open doorway, Rhysand had Elina pinned against the wall, his lips claiming hers with unmistakable ownership. Caleb exhaled sharply, nostrils flaring, but he didn’t speak. His rage was met with an overwhelming force of power as Rhysand turned slightly, locking eyes with him. The faint smirk that curled Rhysand’s lips was more dangerous than any words. It was a challenge, an unmistakable declaration that said, “She’s mine now.” The door closed with a resounding click, shutting Caleb out completely. Back inside the darkened room, Rhysand’s hands pressed firmly against Elina’s hips, anchoring her against him. His voice was low, dangerous. “Have you ever been with an Alpha before?” (Elina's POV) Hours later, I woke alone. The white sheets tangled around me, and the absence of warmth beside me brought reality crashing back. It was still dark out, the faint glow of early dawn spilling through the curtains. Tina stirred in the back of my mind, content in a way I hadn’t felt in years. For one night, she’d forgotten the pain. I noticed my clothes, neatly folded on the chair beside the bed. The small touches hadn’t escaped me. Rhysand, despite his dominating presence, had thought about the little things. As I gathered my belongings, movement across the room caught my attention. Rhysand stepped out of the en-suite bathroom, his short-cropped hair still damp, droplets of water gliding down his chiseled chest and defined abs. The sight of him stole my breath—every commanding inch of him exuded raw power and allure. But what startled me most wasn’t his physicality—it was the way he looked at me. His emerald gaze locked onto mine, sharp and focused, holding a promise I didn’t fully understand but instinctively felt. I swallowed, forcing my voice calm. “What’s with the intense staring?” He smirked, the corners of his mouth lifting into a look that was equal parts teasing and arrogant. “Do you mind doing it again?” My cheeks flushed before I could form a coherent response. Tina stirred restlessly at the husky tone in his voice. Before I knew what was happening, he turned off the dim bedside lamp, plunging the room into darkness. His large hands gripped my waist firmly as he lifted me effortlessly. “I’m sorry,” he murmured softly, his lips brushing against the sensitive shell of my ear. His Alpha tone sent shivers racing down my spine. “But I’m already addicted to your scent.”
