CHAPTER ONE: Dreaming About The Wrong Man
"Oh f**k, Yes Daddy" I moaned as his fingers worked down there. Gabriel's mouth found mine and my fingers tightened in his hair, he kissed me as though he had been waiting for this moment for far longer than either of us cared to admit. One hand rested against my waist while the other worked on my coochie, legs wide open on the office desk, I pulled him closer as his mouth moved from my mouth to my neck and I gasped as he sucked on it. His familiar cologne surrounded me, so warm and so intoxicating, when he whispered my name against my neck, I almost lost it. I was now riding his fingers as I felt myself closer. I felt a shiver travel down my spine. "Serena" he whispered again, his breath hot against my skin My eyes finally found his. His icy blue eyes held mine, but there was nothing cold about the way he looked at my, his gaze moved across my face before settling on my lips again. "Tell Daddy what you want, princess" I gulped hard, still moving my hips to the rhythm of his fingers. I didn't even have to think hard about what I wanted. "I want you to f**k me, Daddy" He kissed me again and I forgot everything except for the warmth of his body against mine, the quiet sounds of our kisses and the way he held my waist as though letting go was the last thing he wanted to do, he removed his hand from my coochie and I whimpered. I had never seen this side of him before. No sharp instructions, no impatient glances as his watch. No perfectly controlled expression that made an entire room nervous. Just Gabriel. Gabriel Bennett. Looking at me as though I was the only woman in the world. I reached for him and he drew me closer. I felt his hard and hot flesh hitting my thigh and I bit my lip. He said my name again and then— My eyes snapped open. I stared at the ceiling, my breathing uneven, the sheets twisted around my legs. Sweat dampened my skin and my heart was beating so hard that I could feel it in my throat and for a few seconds, I remained perfectly still, caught between the fading warmth of the dream and the cool darkness of my bedroom. Then reality settled it. I sat upright. "Oh, my God" my hands flew to my mouth. Gabriel! I had just had a wet dream about Gabriel Bennett! Not some handsome stranger whose face I would forget by lunchtime. Not a celebrity I had watched on television and definitely not one of those fictional men women invented in their heads because real life was disappointing Gabriel Bennett. My actual, real life boss. The man whose schedule I managed, whose meetings I organised and whose coffee order I knew by heart. The man I saw every working day and some weekends too. I pressed my palms against my face, what was wrong with me!? I wasn't a teenager discovering attraction for the first time, I was a damn twenty five year old, a university graduate, a functioning adult with responsibilities and a job that required me to keep my thoughts organised. Well, apparently my subconscious had decided to throw all that maturity out the window while I slept! I climbed out of bed and I immediately felt the discomfort in my coochie, I was wet. I released a small laugh... You horny b***h! I chuckled my way to the bathroom. The mirror offered no sympathy for me. My strawberry blonde hair was a mess, my hazel eyes looked exhausted and my cheeks were still warm, I looked like a woman who had done something she shouldn't have. Which was very ridiculous in my opinion because I hadn't done anything. I had a dream, dreams were not decisions. They weren't promises, confessions or evidence of some secret plan lurking in the back of my mind. I couldn't control what my brain showed me while I slept. That was what I told myself as I stepped into the shower. It was a convincing argument. Well... Almost. Because the dream hadn't featured a stranger, It had featured a man whose voice I heard every morning and most times every night before I slept. Whose expressions I had learned to read and whose presence had become such an ordinary part of my life that I rarely thought about at all. That's until now. I turned my face into the water. The memory returned in fragments: his eyes, his voice, the way he had held me. His hands. His d**k against my thigh. I shut it down immediately. Whatever the dream meant, I wasn't going to spend my whole morning analysing it, I had work to do and Gabriel expected his day to run smoothly, he didn't pay me to arrive at the office looking as though I had lost an argument with my own imagination. By the time I finished dressing up, I had convinced myself that the whole thing was insignificant... Almost. I chose a cream blouse, black trousers and a pair of heels that made me feel more professional than I actually felt. I gathered my hair into a neat style, applied a little makeup and studied my reflection one final time. "There" I said. A perfectly respectable woman, a woman who had not spent the early hours of the morning dreaming about her boss. I picked up my handbag I and left the bedroom before my brain could reopen the discussion. Downstairs, the house was very quiet besides the soft hum of her voice, I could hear the distant hum of the traffic through the windows and the smell of fresh coffee drifted somewhere along the hallway. I smiled. I followed the smell to the kitchen and I found her standing near the counter, pouring coffee into a mug. "You're up early" she said without turning around. "I couldn't sleep" she glanced over her shoulder. "Everything alright?" "Of course!" The answer came a little too quickly and loud but she seemed satisfied, she placed the coffee pot down and smiled at me. " Bad dream?" My hand tightened around my handbag. "Something like that" She studied my face with the familiar concern of someone who has known me my whole life, of which she did. "Do you want to talk about it?" Absolutely Not! " I barely remember it" That was a lie, and a very terrible one. I remembered considerably more than I wanted to. She didn't press me, instead she moved closer and wrapped her arms around me. I hugged her back, grateful for the comfort even as a fresh of embarassment passed through me. She has always been the person I could run to when life became overwhelming, when university stressed me out, when relationships disappointed me, when I doubted myself... She has always been there. I trusted her and I loved her. And whatever ridiculous thoughts my sleeping brain has produced, I would never willingly do anything to hurt her. I held on for another moment before stepping away. "Better?" She asked and I smiled faintly. "Much" "Good. Now have some coffee before you leave" I obeyed and for the first few minutes we talked about ordinary things, my schedule for the day, an appointment she needed me to make. Whether we had had enough groceries for dinner. Normal conversation. Normal morning. Normal life. I welcomed every second of it because normal was precisely what I needed. I was not going to think about the dream. I was not going to wonder why my subconscious had decided to betray and chosen Gabriel and i was certainly not going to let one embarrassing night change how I behaved around him. Whatever happened in my head while I slept, belonged there. It would stay there. I finished my coffee, checked my phone and followed her out of the kitchen. The morning light spilled through the windows as we crossed the hallway towards the front door, I adjusted the strap of my handbag and mentally reviewed the day's appointments. A meeting at nine. A call at ten thirty. Lunch with a potential business partner. Two documents Gabriel need to review before the end of the day. I could do this, I had done it dozens of times. There was no reason today should be any different. The front door opened. I stepped outside, expecting to see the familiar car waiting in the driveway... Instead, I found Gabriel leaning against it. He was checking something on his phone. He looked up when he saw us approaching, his eyes landed on me. "Morning" my stomach tighten, he proceeded to slip his phone into his pocket and straightened, dressed in a charcoal suit that fitted him far too well for the sake of my peace of mind. I immediately looked at the car "Morning" I replied. He studied me for a moment. "Everything all right?" Why did everyone keep asking me that? "Perfectly" His eyebrows lifted slightly as though he didn't believe me, but he didn't pursue the matter. "Ready?" I nodded and walked towards the passenger door. The drive to the office passed without incident, of which I considered a personal victory. Gabriel discussed the morning's schedule, asked whether I had sent the documents he needed and reminded me about the meeting that has been moved to eleven. I answered every question correctly. I did not stare at his mouth. I did not replay the dream, I did not wonder what it would be like to hear him say my name the same way he had in my sleep. I was a professional. A professional professional. And by the time we reached the office, I had successfully pushed the entire incident into a corner of my mind where I intended to leave it. The working day passes as expected, I answered calls, organised appointments, prepared documents and kept Gabriel's schedule from collapsing under the weight of other people's incompetence. Gabriel was demanding as always but I understood his rhythm, I knew when he needed information immediately and when he preferred to work without interruption. I knew which meetings required extra preparation and which client needed a little patience before they became reasonable. Working for Gabriel wasn't always easy but I was damn good at it. By late afternoon, I had almost forgotten the dream. Keyword: almost. When I finally shut down my computer, Gabriel was still finishing a call. I collected my handbag and waited near his office while he wrapped things up. He emerged a few minutes later, slipping his phone into his pocket. "Ready to go?" "Yes" We left together. The drive home was quieter than the morning journey. Gabriel asked about a document he wanted prepared for the following day and I assured him it would be on his desk before his first meeting. "Good" he said "Thank you Serena" Three simple words. Completely ordinary. Yet they followed me all the way to the front door. I hated that. I hated that my brain had apparently decided to make an ordinary man extraordinarily difficult to ignore. I opened the door and stepped inside, already thinking about changing into comfortable clothes and finding something to watch before dinner. Gabriel follows me in. Then I heard footsteps approaching from the living room. "You're home!" The woman who had hugged me that morning appeared in the hallway, smiling as she kissed my cheek and approached Gabriel. He smiled back. Not his polite workplace smile, definitely not the faint expression he used when a client made a joke he didn't find particularly funny. A real smile. He leaned down, kissed her cheek and slipped and arm around her waist. "Welcome home Honey" She laughed softly and touched his face. My legs started to move on their own "dinner will be ready in a few" she shouted after me and I nodded because I couldn't turn and look at her. Because the woman Gabriel was holding was Amanda Hayes. Amanda Hayes is my mother. And Gabriel Bennett? He was my mother's man.
