CHAPTER 24
NATALIA
I nestled safely in Lucas’ side as we drove down the streets of Belmopan. Rain fell gently down, offering a percussions concert using the vehicle roof as an instrument. It was after twelve and I was tired. Lucas had his arm around me and I thought for a moment that I could stay there in his embrace forever. Forever ended a moment later when Lucas straightened and called to the taxi-man.
“Stop!”
The car came to a screeching halt and our driver craned his neck to stare at us. The gold earrings in his dark ears glittered as he spoke. “What’s the matter, man?” He asked in an aggravated voice.
“Lucas?” I questioned. But Elizabeth’s best friend was focusing on something outside his window. He jostled my head when he bounced out of the car. “Lucas!” I called after him.
