“Open the f*****g door, Ava!” Ruiz’s voice thundered from the other side of the door, making me jump in fear. “I’ll break it down if I have to.”
I trembled in my spot, my heart racing in fear. The banging on the door grew louder. I thought he’d actually break the door and burst into my room like the monster he was.
But then, his tone shifted. “Just open the door, please.” His voice was low and soft but filled with desperation. “I won’t hurt you, I just want to talk.”
I sobbed as my body shook uncontrollably. I was terrified of what he would do if I opened the door. A part of me wanted to believe he wouldn’t hurt me.
