It's already Thursday evening. Warren and I are in the airport while waiting for the time of his flight. I have been hugging him since we stepped inside. He hasn't left, but I already miss him. From time to time, he would give me a kiss in the forehead.
"The engagement ring you're wearing is my ultimatum, Chunsa. While I'm away, I want you to remember that there's only you in my heart. Will you be faithful to me even when I'm far?" He'll be gone for 3 months. That's the longest time we will not see each other in person.
I nodded. He reached for my chin to make me look at his eyes.
"You won't entertain any other guy?" He asked again. He's the living proof that a person could be home. He's just staring at me and hugging me tight, but I felt home. I can sleep right here in this position because of comfort he's giving me. I am so in love with Warren, and I'm glad that he's my first and last love.
"I will never do that! I love you." I kissed him in the cheeks. He smiled and granted me a passionate kiss. I don't care if people are watching us. He wiped the tears away again. I started sobbing when he stopped the kiss and laughed because I'm already crying.
"People might think I'm harassing you." He gave me the handkerchief.
"I'm just so proud of you." I pouted. "You always go after what you love. I don't think I can love someone else after you, Warren. So you better be good while you're in the US." I started crying again.
"You can never imagine how much more I feel towards you, Chunsa. I love you so much. I'll give everything you want when I return."
We spent almost two hours in the waiting area cuddling and whispering. It felt like 2 minutes. He gave me a final kiss before he walked away. He asked his driver to take me home, but I sent him back to Warren's house after reading mom's messages. She flooded me with missed calls and messages.
"Hello mom?"
"Where are you, Chunsa? Why are you not answering my calls?" Her voice sounded so worried. I forgot to tell her that I'm sending Warren to the airport tonight.
"Why? I am in the airport now." I haven't talked to her since the wedding day. I want to give her time to enjoy lovely moments with her new husband.
"I texted you yesterday that we have a family dinner tonight. Did Warren already leave? Come here now. Hurry up, darling. We're waiting for you." My jaw dropped. I didn't receive any message from her.
"W-where?"
"Montenegro's mansion. Sean and your cousins are here too. Do you need a driver to pick you..." I cut her off.
"No need, mom. I'm on my way."
While driving to the Montenegro's mansion,I kept thinking about the empty house I'll go home to tonight. 2 days ago when mom transferred to Uncle Paul's house. In those two days, Warren was with me in the house. Tonight, I don't know how I will be able to sleep. But I'll deal with that if I survive this dinner. Thinking that I will meet Sean again made me feel in danger. All I have to do is ignore him.
The tall gates opened when I maneuvered my car in front. The guards checked the undercarriage of my car using an extendable inspection mirror. After that, they allowed me to drive to the pathway of the mansion. It was not humble at all. No one would expect this house to be humble because the owners are two of the few billionaires in the country. I did my research on Sean, and I found out something I was not expecting. He's a billionaire bachelor whose flings are usually from the entertainment industry. With his looks and status, he can marry even the brightest star in the country.
As soon as I entered, mom hugged me.
"I missed you, dear. How was home without me?" It made me sad to think about it again.
"It was quiet. How are you?" I tried to be cheerful like the normal me, but she obviously noticed the pain in my voice. People kept leaving that house, and I should get used to it. That is what breaking me now.
She escorted me to the dinning area. Timothy, Kole and Clara were sitting with Uncle Paul and Sean. There are two more unfamiliar faces in that circle, but before I could ask, Mr. Montenegro introduced me first to Sean.
"We finally get to eat all together, hija. I am proud to introduce to you my only son, Sean. This is Chunsa, model and businesswoman in the company of their own. You must have seen each other in the wedding, but we missed the chance to sit with you." Can we skip the part about wedding?
"Of course. She's too beautiful to ignore that day." Sean's comment made me blush. My three cousins all looked at me to observe my reaction, but I tried to keep my resting b***h face to tell him that I am not affected by his compliment.
The other two guests are Uncle Paul's nieces. It's good that Timothy consistently showed interest with the topics that mom kept bringing up. Sean kept his answers and opinions short, but it's always on point. While I remained silent while enjoying the food.
"Did you have previous appointment, hija? I thought you weren't coming." Uncle Paul asked when he noticed that I'm a little stiff in the corner. Sean's gaze made me feel uncomfortable again.
"I sent my boyfriend to the airport, and I didn't receive mom's message last night. I only found out about this dinner after Warren left. Did you wait long? Sorry."
"It's okay. I'm just worried that this dinner interrupted your schedule. I heard your boyfriend is an architect." I nodded and smiled. I appreciate that he's curious about my personal life. It might be hard for him to take a step forward in getting close to me, but he's doing alright. Our complicated family setup will only get hard to tolerate if we don't communicate and pretend that we are fine with it.
"Most of his clients are in the US. Hhe's following the steps of his father, but he sets his goal more broadly than them. His dream is to establish an engineering firm in Canada which will employ Filipino engineers and architects. The opportunity in a foreign land is higher than here that's why he's taking risks to start pursuing his dream." He nodded.
"So you're open to relocating in the future?" There had a silence in that table. My eyes went to mom who stopped eating while waiting for my reply. I never thought about that because Warren never mentioned about settling in the US.
"That's something I can't allow, Chunsa." Mom answered for me. I don't think I can leave the house where I spent 23 years of my life too. I'm glad that mom found another confidant, at least she will not be as lonely as before. There's something only dad can give her and now, Uncle Paul is there to make her happy again.
Sean opened another topic about business, and I'm glad that their attention is not with me anymore. His strict eyes would scan me from time to time. Kole seemed to notice that. When I excused myself to go to the comfort room, he followed me.
"There's something in the way you look at each other. That's not how siblings should..." I interrupted Kole.
"We hate each other. Does that answer your question?" His mouth formed an 'O'.
"So that explains the animosity between you and Sean. Did something bad happen on the wedding day? He kept staring at you, and you kept blushing." I rolled my eyes.
"What do you really want to say?" I asked sarcastically. His reaction became more serious. I know that I'm about to hear some blunt words when he's like this.
"I followed you to remind you that some lines are not meant to be crossed. He's known for being a playboy, Chunsa. As early as now, I want to warn you to stay away from him. Let's not cause a problem in our family. Do you understand me?" He was so calm while saying every word. I nodded as I took a heavy sigh.
"Don't you trust me? I have been faithful to Warren for five years now. You witness how much I love him, and I am not the type to throw five years for a game. Sean and I just hate each other." The look in his eyes didn't change.
"It's the first time I talked to the guy, so I don't really trust him yet, but I hope that you only hate each other like what you claim. If you start acting silly, please know that I'll get in the way. I only want the best for you." I nodded. He's like a brother to me, so I trust him more than I trust my own decisions.
When we returned, Sean's eyes laid on me. I should get used to those dark eyes from now on. As a model, I am used to attention. This is no different, so I should relax. No intimidation. No intimidation. I keep repeating in my head.
"I have a business meeting along the way. I can give you a ride." Sean stood and picked his wallet and phone from the table.
"At this hour?" Mom asked after checking her wristwatch.
"It's fine. I can give her a ride." Kole meddled when I was about to turn down that offer. Sean looked at him, but didn't say a word.
"I brought my car." I answered.
"Then I won't bring mine. We can take this opportunity to get to know each other as siblings." Timothy and Clara find the situation awkward especially when Kole stood as well. Sean didn't give him any time to say something. He already walked out of the dining room.
Uncle Paul looked at me as if observing my reaction. Yeah. I think we should really talk. I don't want to put our family members in the same awkward situation next time.
"I'll go ahead, mom and uncle. Take care on your way home," I told my cousins. Kole gave me a warning look. Whatever he's thinking will never happen. He's just paranoid.
When I went out of the mansion, I saw all the lights in the lamp posts and even in the fountain in the middle of pathway were on. Sean was leaning on my Black Audi while staring at me walking to his direction. He gestured like he's asking for the car key, so I gave it to him.
"Do you know where I live?" I asked surprised when he started the engine.
"Of course. I should at least know the basic information about the woman that my father married." My heart raced when the bumper almost hit the edge of fountain when he pulled the car out of parallel parking.
"Be careful!" I shouted. He only smirked as answer.
He adjusted the seat because his legs are obviously longer than mine.
"So you have a boyfriend?" He sounded bitter when he asked that. The answer is too obvious.
"Not your business." He maneuvered to the highway, and his driving became reckless. I stared at him, but that has no effect on him. His eyes remained on the road.
"C-can you really drive? What the hell?!" I shouted when he did overtake in the white Fortuner and he almost ran into the truck. There's still no reaction in his face.
"What? Are you trying to kill me to rebel for our parents' wedding?" I am more scared when he glanced at me. I prefer him staring at the road. He's driving the speed limit.
"Rebel may be inappropriate for our age. Let's say... I'm envious of the man who was holding your waist that night." My jaw dropped. I remained quiet after he said that. Kole was right. I shouldn't associate myself with him. The rush of my breathing was hard to hide.
"If I were him, I wouldn't leave the country without marrying you first. What gives him the assurance that you will always choose him?" Fear arose in my chest. I have a lot of male friends, but none of them made me feel this way. My face was heated and my knees were trembling when he talked. I was too enthralled with the strange feeling I have towards him.
"I-i guess you have never fallen in l-love before, Sean. We are both assured that we'll be each other's choice in the end." A grin slowly formed in his lips. Only now that I realized how dangerous it is for my heart to be alone in a car with him.
"Really? But right now, you sound like you're hesitating. Relax. I won't do anything just yet." He was speaking casually, but that sounded like a threat. He made my breathing unsteady.
