Chapter 12 - Two Men of Her Life

My presentation for the sales last month was brief. All the branches of Lopez Clothing increased its sales for about eight to ten percent except the Tagaytay branch with deflating sales. It was the first time it happened, so I scheduled a visitation tomorrow to observe. I instructed my secretary to reschedule my meetings in the afternoon to the day after tomorrow as I will review the changes that could have affected the revenue of our branch in Tagaytay. When I entered in my office, I turned on my laptop to call Warren. He answered it immediately. "Did you have dinner already?" I asked. He looks so tired. "Not yet. I said I would be waiting for your call first. How was the meeting?" He's wearing eyeglasses which made him look geek. That's one of the things I liked about him. Way back in college, a lot of girls were chasing him because he's popular for being a student leader. That's when I know I prefer student leaders than athletes. "It went alright. How was your day, babe?" Guilt embraced me when I called him that. "The construction already started, so I had to stay all day in the field with the engineers. I'm tired, and I think I have cold." He's obviously weak now. I took a deep sigh. "Wish I was there. Did you take medicines already? Drink enough water, babe. You might be dehydrated from the heat outside." "You know what I hate the most, Chunsa. Why is your phone always off at night? That's the only time we can communicate." In the past days, we were roughly getting ahold of each other. "Sorry. There had a blackout last night in the house, and the generator was not working. My phone was dead." He kept that stern look in his eyes. "Next time, keep your phone full charged when you go home. Have you taken lunch?" "You still don't believe me?" I asked. His tone is offensive. He didn't answer. After what happened last night, I feel like I don't have the right to be mad now. "Are you sure you're not doing anything there? You no longer wait for my call at night. You're always tired when we're talking. You're not as interested as before in my stories." His voice raised. I had to sit back to my swivel chair to calm myself. "What can I do here, Warren? Are you suspecting me of cheating? Do you honestly think I can do that to you?" My voice was shaking. I'm sorry, Warren. You don't deserve a lying girl like me, but I can't give up on you now. I just miss you so much that's why I'm doing stupid things like cheating with my stepbrother. I'm so silly, but I love you. "I didn't say anything. Are we really going to argue now?" "You're shouting at me. Are you saying you don't want to fight?" "Alright! Okay! I give up. I don't mean to make you feel offended with my request to keep your phone on all the time." He said sarcastically. I glared at him. "You should go to sleep after eating, Warren. You might really not feel good now." "No!" I stared at him when he shouted. "Don't end this call. I want to see you work. I miss you so much, baby. Allow me to watch you for couple of minutes before I fall asleep." His voice was authorative. He laid in bed and pulled the sheet to cover him. "Grab something for dinner first." He shook his head. "Baaaabe.." "I'm not starving. Go ahead and do your work. I'll be quietly watching you." I let him do what he wants. For the whole morning, I was studying all the reports from Tagaytay branch. In less than an hour, Warren already fell asleep, so I ended the call. I ordered pizza for lunch. It's my comfort food. Gladly, Sean didn't bother me all morning. It's almost s4 in the afternoon when I dialed the line of my secretary to inform her that she will be going with me tomorrow in Tagaytay. "Hello, Ms. Lopez? I was just about to call you." "Why?" "Mr. Montenegro is here to visit you. Should I assist him to your office?" I can feel that she's smiling while asking that. But what the hell is that man doing here? "No need to assist Sean. Tell him to come in. And prepare early tomorrow because you will go with me to Tagaytay." "Okay, ma'am." I fixed the arrangements of bulk of paper in my table. He's a neat freak, so I don't want to show him how messy my table always looks. The door opened, and he walked in so confidently. My forehead wrinkled when I saw what he's wearing. "What are you doing here?" Instead of going to my table, he made himself comfortable in the visitor's lounge. He's wearing a white sweatshirt and ripped jeans. Where did he spend the day? With this attire, he surely didn't go to work. "Not even hello, hi or have a seat. Is that how you greet all your visitors, Ms. Lopez? What are you doing here?" The sarcasm was so evident in his voice. "I don't entertain walk-in guests, so you can consider yourself lucky, Sean. What are you doing here?" He scanned the place. It's not as grand as his office. "Your second line should be 'what do you want? Tea, coffee or water?'. I had to drive 30 minutes to pick you up, but you can't even offer a glass of water to me." I rolled my eyes. "Do you think I'm rude to all my guests? And what are you talking about picking me up?" He stood. "The good luck kiss in the forehead this morning sent luck to my game today. We won today's baseball game. And my team will be having a victory party in the Noche Salvaje Bar. I want to introduce you to my friends." My jaw dropped. "Introduce..." He didn't give me time to question him. "As my stepsister. Let's pretend we keep a close relationship. It's enough for me that only the two of us know what's really going on." I am hesitant to go with him at first, but I'm not going to do anything tonight, so I might just as well go with him. "So you didn't go to work today just to play in that baseball event? Being a CEO has it's perks, I guess." He walked to my table and observed the things there. I was surprised when he grabbed my bag and gave me a sharp look. "Give it back to me!" I shouted. "I'll wait for you in front of the entrance. Black Mercedes with a plate number triple Z and triple 1." I can't believe a man like him exists. I glared at him, but he walked out of my office without any more words. I quickly fixed my things and made sure that my laptop has been turned off. "I'm leaving. Make sure you turn off everything in my office. Thanks." I told my secretary when I went out. Sean Montenegro just does whatever he wants. How dare he hold my bag as hostage? Nevertheless, I felt alive now that someone's messing with my boring life. Should I get drunk tonight? Can I do that when I know that Sean would take advantage of me? Maybe he can be someone who takes care of me when I get all wild. I want to know.
