Sam's body was tired from travelling he had gotten soft with age and horseback was not a natural form of transport for a dwarf. It was a long way from the ground for the small man if he was to fall, not that he was worried the elven steeds were the most magnificent creatures. Fierce, intelligent creatures of beauty,  the elves whispered to them and respected them as equals. Soora himself had mostly walked or run, yet for Sam if the journey was to be fast, he needed to be on horseback. It was like his horse Mara understood this and did not mind at all him being on her back. She knew the way to Amalon and all Sam had to do was be comfortable and enjoy the ride. He often found himself scratching behind Maras ears and cooing, "yer a good girl ye are." They had headed south following the Azure
